Will there be more Summer 2024 cruises in Asia than there are planned for 2023?

When I search I only see a few Asian sailings in summer 2023, all on Princess.  Is that the norm?  Or is it that the cruise lines didn't want to commit to Asia in 2023 because of all the unknowns and we'll see more options in summer 2024?

Summer is not the traditional cruising season in Asia. Cruise ships usually start coming from October, and stay until around April.

 

Major cruise lines tend to deploy their ships to Alaska, which is more profitable and can only operate in summer. Some other cruise ships sail in Europe in summer, and relocate to Asia in winter.

 

Even though the Asia cruise industry resumes back to normal after the pandemic, I don't think there will be too many choices in summer 2023 or even summer 2024 on the larger cruise ships. There will be more choices in late autumn, winter, and early spring.

Princess and Royal Caribbean are really the only lines that regularly do cruising in Japan during the summer months.  NCL had planned to do new cruises in Japan during July/August but Covid ruined those plans and who knows if they will ever return now that the Spirit is homeporting in the Mediterranean instead.

If you want to do Summer Cruising in Japan, you might look at a Japanese Cruise Line Company.

 

Mitsui O.S.K has Nippon Maru

NYK has Asuka II (former Crystal Harmony)

Japan Cruise Line has Pacific Venus

 

These ships are Japanese Flagged, so are not required to visit a foreign port (although they sometimes do).

The product is VERY Japanese, with Japanese entertainment, food, drink, tours, etc.

They do carry Interpreters who can assist non-Japanese speakers.

The ships are relatively small, so are able to visit very small, out of the way ports.
