Williamsburgcruiser Posted October 7, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2022 Opinions please.... I will tip extra when I cruise, if I receive above average service. Would the staff prefer small bills (1s, 5s) or larger (10s, 20s, 50).
pfdaxe358 Posted October 7, 2022 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2022 Money is money. I'm sure they would appreciate whatever you give. No loose change though 😉

I try to get 2 dollar bills from my banking institutions just for wait staff and bar staff. If they provide expected or better service, I'll give 'em a 2 dollar bill or two, or three, depends. Now, if you are tipping a Genie/Concierge, cabin attendant, of course, larger bills are fine. It all spends. If you give out $100.00 dollar bills I'm sure they can get them broken up on the ship at the casino/customer service, et al. However, I was told in another cruise social media site that some crew don't like $2.00 bills because their banks in their home country aren't familiar with the U.S. $2.00 bill. I've been doing this for decades and never had a complaint. In fact, they, mostly, seem to appreciate the novelty of it. BTW, for a 7 night cruise, I get about $200.00 in two dollar bills. BND Posted October 7, 2022 #6 Share Posted October 7, 2022 (edited) We have an assortment of bills. $1 for our D+ drinks. $5 and $10 for tours. Larger bills for tips at the end of the cruise for stewards, waiters and the casino lol. As for the $2 bills, what I've heard from several people is the ports don't always accept them as they don't recognize them. There really aren't that many in circulation. I have one that I got when they first came out. Cash registers aren't made with an extra space for them. Edited October 7, 2022 by BND
jcc1025 Posted October 7, 2022 #7 Share Posted October 7, 2022 We do the same, take an assortment of $1, $5 and a few $10 for shore excursions. I usually wait until the middle and end parts of the cruise to tip the bartenders. I know from talking to them that cash tits at individual bars are shared amough all the bartenders at that bar. I usually add a dollar to two to individual drinks during the cruise. I know that some would say I over tip but I worked in the service industry and know how hard the front line people work and deserve them all. I really get mad when I hear some guest say they are not going to tip becuse of some small issues that happen one time as an excuse to not tip. 2
RD64 Posted October 8, 2022 #8 Share Posted October 8, 2022 I would appreciate some $50s - I am sure the staff will too.
3CatsInMA Posted October 8, 2022 #9 Share Posted October 8, 2022 Personally I'd be insulted by anything less than a C-Note.
Tee & Chilli Posted October 8, 2022 #10 Share Posted October 8, 2022 I also bring several denominations. I use $1s for room service and diamond drinks.

crzndeb Posted October 8, 2022 #12 Share Posted October 8, 2022 Only you can decide what you want to leave as a gratuity. If you need change, go to guest services.
