shipgeeks Posted October 16, 2022 #2 Share Posted October 16, 2022 You might not be allowed to bring them back onto the ship, due to possible contamination. There is frequently a note on the daily schedule and at the gangway to that effect, and I have seen piles of confiscated shells near the dock. You also might not be permitted to take them from beaches in the first place. Many areas have rules to prevent their beaches being picked clean by the thousands of tourists. Most importantly, it’s the tiny “hitchhikers” you can’t see that can be devastating to a region in your chime country that has a large agricultural economy.
Rare Ferry_Watcher Posted October 16, 2022 #5 Share Posted October 16, 2022 Even at our local beaches there are rules, regulations and laws(?) prohibiting the taking of shells, sand, driftwood.
ldubs Posted October 16, 2022 #6 Share Posted October 16, 2022 If there are prohibitions like those indicated above, perhaps you can find a bag of local shells at a gift shop. I would assume those could be brought back on board.

Yes, most of these countries that prohibit shell taking, require that all shells sold in stores be boiled to remove any minute traces of biologic material. 2
ldubs Posted October 16, 2022 #8 Share Posted October 16, 2022 And, just because you can't take them away, doesn't mean you can't still enjoy the hunt. Kind of like catch and release!
Rare 1025cruise Posted October 16, 2022 #9 Share Posted October 16, 2022 If you are looking to bring shells home, from any gift shop you find where they have been cleaned/treated/etc.
