superduper123 Posted November 6, 2022 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2022 What are the odds of randomly seeing the same couple (complete strangers) on two different cruises? We sailed Celebrity in June - Cape Liberty, Bermuda itinerary, and then Enchantment in Sept., Baltimore to NE/Canada. On the Sept EN cruise, I recognized a couple that I had seen on a previous cruise. After a brief chat, we confirmed they were on the same Celebrity sailing. Thought it was certainly unusual. Not sure it happens very often. Cross posting on Celebrity board as well.

About the same as winning the Powerball lottery. 🤔 Meeting the same cruisers on two separate cruises or winning $1.9 Billion? 🤔 😁 Have a fun cruise! firefly333 Posted November 6, 2022 #3 Share Posted November 6, 2022 If you cruise out of the same port regularly it's not that unusual. Were both out of the same port.

DeputyDawg46 Posted November 6, 2022 #6 Share Posted November 6, 2022 When you do 15-20 cruises a year it happens a lot. Same with the crew that may or may not change ships.
smokeybandit Posted November 6, 2022 #7 Share Posted November 6, 2022 It's happened to us a couple times and we only do 2-3 cruises per year
Jasukkie Posted November 6, 2022 #8 Share Posted November 6, 2022 I'm sure it happens a lot but some people stand out more than others. I've cruised more than once with the couple that wears super colorful matching outfits. Or maybe there's multiples of that couple lol.

Haven't seen them in a while but see people we have cruised with on many sailings.

RCCLNYMETS41 Posted November 7, 2022 #11 Share Posted November 7, 2022 we had table mates a few cruises ago with a couple & their 6-year-old daughter. I always take videos on my cruises & was rewatching a video from 5 years before. As we are waiting to go into the main dining room, I was scanning the crowd waiting to go in. Against the wall is a man who looked very familiar, with a kid in a stroller...sure enough, it was the husband with his, at that time, 1-year-old daughter. I emailed him to confirm that they were indeed on the same cruise.
Another_Critic Posted November 7, 2022 #12 Share Posted November 7, 2022 Very common for the same people to sail from Cape Liberty and Baltimore. I first met two couples in the Diamond lounge on Adventure from Cape Liberty. Recently met the same two couples on Enchantment from Baltimore when they sat the row behind us in the theater. SHIP TRAVELER Posted November 7, 2022 #16 Share Posted November 7, 2022 It may not be unusual but it is a very a fun happening. We shared a table with a couple (strangers at the time) on an Adventure of the Seas Trans Atlantic. We hit it off and still exchange Christmas travel updates each year. Three years later we spotted them at the Diamond breakfast on a Mariner (?) cruise out of New Orleans. We did a double take because the live in Maryland and cruise mostly off the east coast. We met up for Happy Hour every night during that cruise. We enjoyed both cruises with them and would love to cross paths again but at least the Christmas cards are still happening. ronandcarla Posted November 8, 2022 #17 Share Posted November 8, 2022 My Mother and Father-in-law years ago were on the Song of Norway and sat with another lovely couple from Canada and when they came home they told my wife and I all about them and were so lucky to be seated with them; so fast forward about 4 years later my wife and I and Mother and Father-in-law were in Disney World MGM Studios ordering lunch at a walk up cafeteria and when my Father-in-law turned around with 4 cokes on a tray, slipped and spilled the sodas on a a few people sitting a table, and believe it or not it was the same folks from Canada. Even though it was embarrassing, a lot of laughs and hugs and kisses were had by all.
samiam0403 Posted November 8, 2022 #18 Share Posted November 8, 2022 You'd be surprised how often it happens! My random encounters have been: sailed twice with a fellow friend/Cruise-Critic'er, sailed once with someone from work (work in Ohio, cruise out of Florida), cruised once with a friend from our early military days 20 years ago, and in the less random category - once met a wonderful casino worker (Joseph) on a cruise. He was on his first contract, and being homesick, loved to talk about his family back home. 2 or 3 years later, I'm on a cruise with my parents (their first), and was in the casino telling them about the wonderful Joseph that I had met. Felt a tap on my shoulder, and it was him!
Rare brillohead Posted November 8, 2022 #19 Share Posted November 8, 2022 Happens quite a bit with me, too. Just last week someone came up to me in the Schooner Bar on Symphony and they remembered me from the Allure in May. My hair is... uh... distinctive, yeah, we'll use that word.... so I think it makes me more recognizable. I've also been on the same cruise as friends without planning it that way on several occasions.

MiniChunks Posted November 8, 2022 #21 Share Posted November 8, 2022 More randomly than running into repeat cruisers, which we have, I've had pretty strange chance encounter with someone i'd known long way back. DW and I boarded Liberty years ago and after checking into the room, I went to the bar to grab a drink. Started talking with a couple next to me to find out she was a little girl, probably 10-12 years younger than me, that lived 5 houses down from from me growing up. Steeler Nation At Sea Posted December 17, 2022 #22 Share Posted December 17, 2022 (edited) Twice ran into the same set of fellow band booster parents at my kids' high school while boarding. Didn't know in advance that we were each cruising. Even more unique because we are no where near a "homeport" or frequent cruisers. Now we discuss our future cruise plans whenever we run into each other! I think there are more than one "colorful couple" out there. I think I've also seen the very noticeable twins that were mentioned on my 2 cruises this year. Rare Tree_skier Posted December 17, 2022 #23 Share Posted December 17, 2022 The guy who worked at Coffee bar on Adventure in Dec 2019 was on Liberty Dec 2021. He remembered my wife and almost remembered her special order. She gets multiple Latte's a day... sugar free vanilla Latte with no fat milk and 2 Splendas. He forgot about the Splenda. Amazing after 2 years.
Rare Deeliteful Posted December 17, 2022 #24 Share Posted December 17, 2022 (edited) Happened several times to me too. Very randomly as I cruise from many different ports and cruise lines. A couple of guys I had played poker with on previous cruises and a couple from UK on Celebrity ship who I had met the previous year on RCI. It’s a small world. seychelle Posted December 17, 2022 #25 Share Posted December 17, 2022 Was sitting on a bench on a European Viking River Cruise talking with a friend when a woman walked up and my friend said oh, I want you to meet my friend Fiona. I said the only Fiona I had ever known was a sorority sister my freshman year at a large midwestern university but she left after the first year. Well, you know where this is going! Yup, it was the same Fiona!!
