Rare jpalbny Posted March 18 #2456 Share Posted March 18 1 hour ago, QueSeraSera said: Yes. Some days nothing beats a chilled sauvignon blanc For the first bottle, sure... Today we had a craving for some halibut, so we took two small fillets out to thaw while we went out for a walk. Unfortunately the treadmill is on the fritz so we had to bundle up in the 40-some degree chill and brave the wind in order to get our steps. This chilly expedition put me in the mood for a red wine. But with halibut? I thought back to a delicious lunch that I had along the Douro, where they paired a cod fillet with a light red... So, I cooked some potato slices in olive oil with shallots and garlic, then threw in a few sliced mushrooms. Finally I put the halibut fillets on top and baked it in the oven until the fish was just cooked through. A drizzle of olive oil and some herbs finished the dish. And it went well with a Grenache!
QueSeraSera Posted March 18 #2457 Share Posted March 18 JP that sounds delicious! I read it aloud to my wife and she agrees. We've been baking halibut in various ways for dinner, this innovation sounds worth pursuing! 2

lincslady Posted March 19 #2464 Share Posted March 19 It is the humidity - and I noticed especially in Singapore that the aircon is set so cold indoors that outside feels even worse than it needs to.

It's weird the way they do that. When we lived in Hong Kong it would be 40 degrees and 100% humidity in summer but if you went downtown to eat you had to carry a sweater. Glad I wasn't paying the energy bill.

Same here in Rio (not all places in Brazil, but in Rio yes!). At home the aircon is always at 17oC. 1

My Singaporean friends usually don’t use air conditioning in the living areas of the house, only bedrooms at night. They are used to the heat. Mind you, June is the month they come to stay with relatives in Australia! I certainly understand why @mysty will want to stay on the ship sometimes. 17C at home, Lirio? That’s freezing! I set my home aircon at 24*C, or 25*C if outside is over 38*C. Edited March 20 by Port Power

To invoke a local expression, that's "sweater weather" around here! 14 minutes ago, jpalbny said: that's not much warmer than my wine refrigerator! Rare mysty Posted March 21 Author #2472 Share Posted March 21 Some description and pics from the World Cruise Event which left from Semarang, Indonesia. We left the ship in 24 mini-coaches at around 9:00 am. The 130 people going to this event were divided into 2 groups. Half went to Borobudur on the first day and half went to Mangkoenagaran. On day 2 the itineraries were reversed. The 24 mini-coaches traveled with 2 police car escorts. Our group visited MesaStila (a resort and coffee plantation) first. Here we has a welcome coffee, peanuts and cassava chips followed by a coffee plantation tour followed by lunch. Next stop was Borobudur. This is the largest Buddhist relic in the World. Myster climbed to the top. We then went to our hotel the Yogyakarta Marriott. At 6:30 pm we were taken by the mini-coaches to Prambanan. This is the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia. We had dinner on the lawns facing the temple. The day 2 itinerary will appear soon. 12

Rare mysty Posted March 21 Author #2475 Share Posted March 21 (edited) The second day of the trip we headed to the Pura Mangkunegaran, a palace complex in the city of Surakarta, Central Java. It is the official palace and residence of the Duke of Mangkunegara and his family. There was a cultural dance performance, a tour of the complex and lunch.
