@Colatech We will be in Puerto Plata in a couple of weeks (with RCCL) and are booking the TAINO BAY BEST OF PUERTO PLATA CITY TOUR which is detailed in the link below.  This company also does the same tour from Amber Cove as well.  They have a 5* rating on TA.

There are plenty of people offering excursions outside the exit of Taino Bay cruise port. walk past the pool, and all the shops to the exit.

We agree easy to get tour just outside the exit. We were there last Oct. just make sure the driver speaks english if you don't speak Spanish. We made that mistake a few years ago.

Can you provide feedback on this tour?

I can not attest to this particular tour, but it certainly looks appealing. We chose to walk into town and was a bit disappointed, while there were a few interesting highlights, there really wasn't a lot to see, so a tour would surely be better. Outside of the general area would be unsafe, in my opinion.

BTW, the Port area was one of the best we have visited in the Caribbean.

No, I'm afraid we never got enough info. If we ever go back, we will surely do an organized tour. The town is a bit disappointing and maybe we missed some things as we walked to it. We were impressed by the port area though.

So @Colatech did you get to look around the Taino Bay area for shopping for souvenirs and if so, how did they compare to what is available within an easy walk outside of the port area?  We're looking at booking a shore excursion through the cruise line but then spending some time nearby once we get back.  We're scheduled to be docked 7A-4P and we're looking at a 3.5 hr excusion so we figure we'll be back to the ship area by 12:30.  Did you get to try any of the restaurants nearby for some authentic cuisine?
