Hotels New Orleans Hyatt Regency or Harrahs?

I haven’t stayed at Harrahs, but Hyatt regency is super nice. Harrahs is closer to the port and the French Quarter. Hyatt does have a street car stop out front.

Once again, thank you for  your insights.  Based upon your article on NOLA parking, we've decided to park at Fulton which means being closer to the port isn't a feature.  We've also read about vandalism at the Whale Lot.

Any advice on good dining within walking distance of Hyatt?

If you’re staying at the Hyatt you want this.

The Hyatt has a few restaurants inside it including a high end seafood restaurant that was a John Besch restaurant before he got in trouble. Walk-Ons is almost across the street. It’s a sports bar-restaurant with a Louisiana spin. It’s become a chain since Drew Brees got involved so depending on where you’re from…If you’re in the mood for Mexican Johnny Sanchez and Juan’s Flying burrito are a block away. Johnny Sanchez was started by celebrity chefs John Besch and Aaron Sanchez.

They now have a District donuts just a block away which I love for breakfast. That’s where I ate the king cake donut a couple weeks ago in my Nola trips thread. They also have great biscuits and biscuit sandwiches. Then they have good sliders at lunch time.

You also have access to the entire French Quarter with the streetcar stop right out front. The Loyola streetcar heading towards canal street will take a right on canal and go all the way down stopping every block or so.

I always take the time to read  your reviews.  I've also given links to a lot of folks that are asking about things like parking , hotels, dining, etc.

The Flying Burrito looks very good.

According to the internet, the high end seafood place in the Regency is closed.  Do you have other information?

I've looked at  your website and I see  you've reviewed the Harbor House in Galveston but I don't find the Tremont.  Have  you done the Tremont?  We're on Prima in Feb 24 from Galveston.  Leaning towards Harbor House.

I haven’t done Tremont but heard it’s nice. That’s the downside to Hyatt. There aren’t a lot of restaurants within a couple blocks. You’d have to go further down Poydras or take the streetcar down canal to get to more restaurants.

I showed wife the menu from the Flying Burrito.

She loved it.  Guess I know where we'll be having dinner.

We're driving from North Alabama, about a seven+ hours drive.  We don't need fancy.

Thanks.

We've booked a Prima for Feb 2024 out of Galveston.

We'll be at either the Harbor House or Tremont.

Maybe you can do a review of Tremont before then.

The next time I’m planning on being in Galveston is Feb 2024 as well. On Jubilee. Was supposed to be this November but shipyard delays.

Just my luck.  I doubt we'll be going back to Galveston.  Our 2025 cruise is Alaska.  We'll see after that.  At my age, next month is long range planning.
