Unwanted Notifications

Normally I receive notifications for content I am following, when I'm mentioned in a post, etc. That is fine and what I want. However, a few days ago I started getting notifications when somebody posts a new thread. I have checked and re-checked my settings and I don't even see an option for that type of notifications. At this point I have turned off all notifications so I'm not bombarded with notices that "so-and-so has posted a thread".

 

I would really like to turn notifications back on but I need to figure out why this new behavior is happening. Any help or info will be greatly appreciated.

Note you may have accidently Followed a forum. If so, you will receive notifications re any new threads posted to that forum.

Thank you soooooooooooo much!  I somehow managed to follow the forum. I never even realized that was possible. I probably meant to follow a thread and accidentally followed the forum instead. Many thanks for your fast answer and assistance.
