Historical Perspective of Miami Port

Recommended Posts

Port of Miami, 1926

The little sandbars to the far right is what is now PortMiami, next to that is Government Cut, which is what the ships sail out of.

The two islands is Palm and Hibiscus....Hibiscus is the least developed of the two.

That long single island is Star Island, and that's where the stars would buy homes, like Al Capone, Gloria Estefan (Queen Gloria of Miami), The Bee-Gees, Vanilla Ice, etc....

The other undeveloped islands is the Venetian Causeway

That weird kink in the road way by the port, that is what will become Watson Island and the home of Chalks Airlines (Seaplanes) and even the Goodyear blimp for a time. It now has that children's museum and on other side is now Parrot Jungle (under some new name)

To the bottom, that is what WAS the port of Miami, but is now Bayside Marketplace.

Between those two causeways heading east to the beach, on the other side from the old port, is where Miami Arena sits today, where the Miami Heat plays
