KPookey Posted March 2, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2023 We are cruising into Bermuda in mid June. My husband and I bike our local rail trails and are experienced cyclists. Considering the price of the excursion and our limited time in Bermuda, I’m on the fence as to whether or not to do this excursion. 1. Is it miserable due to heat/humidity on a pedal bike in June? 2. Is the trail, in the area of the excursion, scenic and unique (I’ve read different opinions) 3. Does the tour travel at a snails pace? We like to keep a pretty decent clip when cycling Any opinions are appreciated!!
Charles4515 Posted March 2, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2023 I have not done the excursion but usually visit in June. The humidity is not miserable then. July and particularly August are high humidity. You don’t have to book through NCL unless you are getting some type of excursion credit. Independent it costs $85. How much is NCL charging. Also if you are worried about the pace you can rent pedal bicycles on your own.
KPookey Posted March 2, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted March 2, 2023 (edited) Royal Carribean $91 per person for bus ride each way, biking and beach break. I’d probably pay the $91 vs $85 to be sure I’m back on board on time, which would happen through the excursion for sure. thank you. Your excursion with Royal will be the same one if done through the Island Tour Centre but for $6 you might as well book through the ship.
pghflyer Posted May 21 #5 Share Posted May 21 https://www.royalcaribbean.com/shore-excursions/kwb/royal-naval-dockyard-bermuda/railway-trail-bike-beach-swim/bkn8 Seems it is handled by this company: https://kswatersports.com/fantasea-tours/bike-railway-and-beach-tour/ Anyone done this recently? While the description from RCL says 5-8 miles of biking, a lot of reviews say it is more 3-4 of slow biking and the rest is bus ride/ walking tour stops/ beach time? It seems you don't even pick up the bikes until Ely's Harbour, which is right near the fort.
minniemouse427 Posted May 21 #6 Share Posted May 21 I have been looking for more information on this vs. renting a bike and doing it independently. My husband is a cyclist (ie there are multiple bikes, bike shorts, shoes, pedal clips, etc) that routinely rides dozens of miles per ride and trains for longer group rides. There is definitely a concern that the excursion would be far too slow for him to enjoy the ride. Thoughts on renting and logistics of getting to and from the trail w/ the bike, vs the excursion? Thanks!
pghflyer Posted May 21 #7 Share Posted May 21 (edited) I definitely think a real cyclist will die of boredom on the tour. My port schedule is 2 half-days basically, so not very conducive to the whole rental transaction and return and all aboard time. Generally the reviews say a lot of the trail is covered, somewhat unmarked, and has sections where you have to lift your bike and walk apparently. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g147255-d148021-Reviews-Bermuda_Railway_Trail-Bermuda.html https://www.alltrails.com/trail/bermuda/smith-s/bermuda-railway-trail Edited May 21 by pghflyer

It is not continuous. On Bermuda roads there are no bike lanes. They are one lane winding roads with no shoulders. The only area without a lot of congestion is St. George. I have not done it but I could visualize bicycle riding there. I would be afraid of riding elsewhere without a group of riders.
