One oddity of Tahiti that you may not be aware of - for some things they are considered parts of France (though not Schengen )

Just because no vaccinations were required on Seasick Sailor's voyage, doesn't mean there are none that exist, that might protect you from illness in the tropics. You should consult your own physician.

But the question was simply 

"For the  French Polynesian  islands in the South Pacific are  visas or shots required ?" 

and the simple answer is no.
