39august Posted June 19, 2023 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2023 (edited) What is the smoking vs. non-smoking policy on MSC, please? Any differences in the Yacht Club? Edited June 19, 2023 by 39august
Two Wheels Only Posted June 19, 2023 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2023 You can smoke in designated areas only. In line with global standards, smoking areas on board are fewer than non-smoking areas and are indicated by signage and ashtrays. Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is not permitted in cabins, on cabin balconies and anywhere not expressly indicated by signage and ashtrays. The Company reserves the right to levy a fee should passengers be found smoking in non designated areas of the vessel. Repeatedly smoking in non- smoking areas can ultimately lead to disembarkation. 39august Posted June 20, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted June 20, 2023 Any info as to specific areas for smoking? I assume near the pool and in the casino. How about inside bars? Smoking allowed at any of those?
Rare Morgsmom Posted June 20, 2023 #4 Share Posted June 20, 2023 The smoking areas are designated, and not near the pools per se. NO smoking inside, unless the casino or in the ships with designated Cigar Bar.
Rare 4sallypat Posted June 20, 2023 #5 Share Posted June 20, 2023 Smoking is a huge culture if you sail in a European cruise. Almost everyone lights up or vapes (Europeans). I had to leave the pool deck, casinos, and inside lounges due to the smoke. Cigar smokers are to smoke near the pool bar with designated special ashcans. Ended up getting sinusitis and having to take antibiotics when I got home.

Bit of a sweeping generalization there... Didn't even smell smoke once on Divina cruising around Italy a couple of weeks ago and the smoking room was empty whenever we walked past it. Last stats I saw had daily smokers in the EU at around 20%, and US at around 12.5%, so yes, higher in Europe, but a long, long way short of 'almost everyone'... From a Californian who rarely sees any smokers due to restrictive laws & ordinances, the MSC cruise was full of smokers comparatively. Women would vape while their male counterpart would smoke cigarettes like it was a fire sale. Smoke would be everywhere - lounges, bars, elevators, hallways, pool side, buffet, theater, etc...... The only areas that did not have smoke were: main dining room & stateroom.
Mark_T Posted June 21, 2023 #8 Share Posted June 21, 2023 Sorry you had that experience, but it was not the same for us, nor does it translate to all other European cruises, or Europeans in general... ... nor is it compliant with MSC policy so did you raise this with any crew while you were onboard? mackfam Posted June 21, 2023 #9 Share Posted June 21, 2023 Recently on the Meraviglia, the casino was extremely smoky and the port side of the main pool deck. In the YC the outside smoking area seems to be on the starboard side in a somewhat cordoned off area. Still found it annoying as smoke from there drifted back to where the cabanas are. 1
phissy Posted June 21, 2023 #10 Share Posted June 21, 2023 (edited) On Meraviglia, there are only 3 cabanas in YC pool area. 2 reserved for RS. On our last B2B , there was a group of travel agents that set up area around their cabana like an office. No one in the group were in RS. They put up banner with company name and had loud music , drinks and trinkets for guests from YC who wandered by. Very annoying with the addition of cigar smoke on top of this. I asked if they could go to smoking area…..and you guessed it….I got a lecture that they are VIP’s with MSC and they are entitled to behave as such. I had Concierge move us to Cabana furthest away from them for the remainder of cruise. Others must have complained because next day, YC Director came and informed them that they needed to remove signage, music and promotion of their services. All too often the crew need complaints from guests to enable them to deal with the entitled few that spoil the atmosphere for everyone else. 3
Rare Ryan82 Posted July 6, 2023 #12 Share Posted July 6, 2023 The were lots of passengers smoking on Virtuosa in June. Even though its large you could smell cigarette smoke on deck 15 even outside. My real annoyance is people smoking cigarettes in the smoking lounge on deck 18. I appreciate they have every right to, but it eally ruins the experience of enjoying a fine cigar. NavyCruiser Posted July 6, 2023 #13 Share Posted July 6, 2023 I'm not a smoker at home, but do like to light up a few cigars while on vacation. Will be on our very first MSC cruise next year, on the Euribia, out of Rotterdam/Amsterdam. So how many outside smoking areas, besides Deck 18 as mentioned above, are available for cigar smokers? Does MSC has an indoor cigar lounge? Thanks,

On our April cruise in Europe, the pool deck smoking area was only ever half full at most and half of those people were vaping, so no smoke emissions. And the casino area was never smoky. It was our first trip to Europe since 2020, we stayed post cruise too, and it was noticeable that far fewer people were smoking. Obviously, until your on board you're not going to know the smoking habits of your fellow passengers. A lottery along with if they are a well mannered bunch or there are unruly children.
