Coral 3-04-06 Part 6 (last one!)

Recommended Posts

Mon., Mar. 10

Day 10

Spent our last day lounging and packing. The bags have to be outside by 8 p.m. and we knew it was going to be a challenge. Did the pool and hot tub. Considered one more shot at the spa, but didn’t do it. Had a long, leisurely good-by lunch with our Trivia pals. Lounged on our bacony, pretending to be rich :). Went to the farewell dinner. Watched Pride and Prejudice. Picked up our trip video. Played penny slots in the casino until well after midnight.

Tues., Mar. 14

Disembarkation! :(

Boy, does Princess have this down to a science or what? We were the last group off at 9:30. We needed to be out of our room at 8:30, so went down and found seats in the casino. We were actually called at 9:25 and were off the ship and in the Customs line at 9:30. The Customs line was horrible, so we sprang for a porter and got to go in the Porters Only line. We were on our transfer bus at 10:00. (There were already people lined up to go aboard.) Unfortunately, the bus was blocked in by other buses, so we had to wait for about 15 min. We were at the hotel by 10:30.

We had signed up to do the Everglades tour with Princess, but it was cancelled. Just as well- we got it cheaper at the hotel. Also, if we had done the Princes tour, they would have dropped us off at the airport and we would have had to take a cab back. This way, we got picked up right at our hotel by a mini-van with a great tour guide. He was a Seminole Indian and as soon as we expressed interest in his culture, he never stopped talking. He even detoured on the way back so we could see the reservation, the casino they had built, ranches, and some other interesting stuff. Not sure how thrilled the other 4 people on our tour were, but its hard to say- They were Norwegian and spoke no English. To all intents and purposes, we had a private tour. :)

The Evergades tour itself was a disappointment. I think we should have gone to the other side where the National Park was. This place was a kind of rinky-dink outfit and the guide was very full of himself. We did see several alligators and lots of neat birds, plus a very hokey alligator show. (Our guide said this is the very same tour company Princess uses.) We got back just in time to see the Coral sail away, with all those folks on Deck 14 having a great sail-away party :(

I will post a review/rating later. Meanwhile, i'm open for questions.

Hey Cruiseteach... Great review!! (all 6 parts!) I have a question about tendering at Cozumel. We will be on the Coral next month.... no excursions planned at Coz, just want to do alittle shopping and throw alittle business to the local tavern owners. Do I have to go somewhere and get a ticket for the tender? If we sleep late and go "noonish", will we be able to catch a tender more easily after the masses have scurried away earlier in the morning? (Did that make sense?) I guess I mean, do I need a ticket if I tender later? Thanks in advance from a fellow retired educator...36 years in Ohio.

We appreciate seeing your review since we are strongly considering this for our next cruise and will be taking it around the same time as you. We would like a balcony room and would like to know where you would consider the best rooms to be.

We did the Princess Everglades tour and it was the same place you went to. I agree that it was a little disappointing and I thought I was going to the real Everglades, not just some park:( However, the airboat ride was fine and the Flamingo Park that we also went to was nice.

Great review. Sounds like you had a great time!

Another about-to-be-retired teacher checking in! 23 years in AZ Special Education. The only weird part of our retirement is that we are so short of teachers out here - you retire one day and go right back to work the next as a contracted employee. My two teacher buddies and I are heading for the Med this Fall so I appreciate what you are saying about having earned the trip!

We will be on the Coral in May for the 4-night coastal with most of our family. I have prebooked the Spa Taster so I was glad to hear you enjoyed it. We have a VS and 3 minis. Can you think of anything else we should know to totally enjoy our short trip?

Thanks for taking the time to post your review...enjoy retirement!

Yes, you will need a tender ticket. The Patter that day will explain all. :) You will probably have to wait until all the tour folks are off, but that shouldn't be much later than 10 a.m. The good news is, the Coral anchors much closer to Cozumel than to Playa Del Carmen. I believe the tenders there run every hour.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I am almost ready to post a rating/summary/review (just one part this time :) ) and answer anything I can. I have all the Patters and menus, too.I may even post some photos as soon as I learn how. (Just got my first digital camera for this trip. Got some great photos, but have to read my manual to figure out how to put them online.).

Cruiseteach,

Thank you for the great review. Best I've read in a long awhile. Is your next career writing cruise reviews? That would be fun.

Thanks again
