misha1 Posted June 16 #3 Share Posted June 16 Generally between 1 and 3 pm you should be able to see the big planes
Rare happychippy Posted June 17 #4 Share Posted June 17 You can always check the flight arrivals and departures online for the day you are going to be in St. Maarten https://www.flightstats.com/v2/flight-tracker/arrivals/SXM

There is a sign on the beach that tells you what times the landings are. Unfortunately, the planes are not as big as they used to be and also fly a bit higher Last time we went, we went to a beach just a bit further round for a couple of hours, then walked round to Maho as we didnt want to spend time on Maho beach....way too crowded. The KLM flight with daily service to Amsterdam up until a few years ago used to be a 747-400 that was much larger than that. KLM now operates a much less impressive Airbus A330-300. Seeing the 747 come over the beach was truly impressive. Also if you look close at the tail markings this particular picture appears to be an Air France flight. Air France has a similar Airbus A300-200 on this route from Paris daily.

The larger planes from Europe land in the early afternoon as mentioned but you'll see a regular cadence of aircraft, both a mix of commercial and smaller private jets, using the airport all day. IGGY63 Posted August 12 #9 Share Posted August 12 I have been there a few times, and the experience is incredible. There are so many planes both big and small that land and take off during your visit. Highly recommended!

Too late for shipsy risky.
