Just Returned from Legend

Recommended Posts

I Just returned home this morning from the 8 day Eastern Carribean cruise on the Legend. Dont have time now to write a full review, but overall it was amazing. Worst part was the last day knowing they were going to force me off the ship. If anyone has questions let me know.

Also, i searched multiple times for the Legend Log and couldnt find it. I wasnt on here for about two weeks before i left so if someone had already said that, i am sorry.

Suffering from Cruise Withdrawal,

Elissa

Elissa, glad you enjoyed the Legend! I searched the entire book and game section of the library in April and never found the log. Guess we'll have to see if someone can replace it.

Hi Elle, glad you enjoyed your cruise. My family and friends are cruising the Legend on 8/3, could you please answer a few questions.

Did you get use of Camp Carnival, did kids enjoy it? What excursuions did you book, and were they all thru Carnival? How was the motion on the ship?

Looking forward to your review.

Thanks.

I read the reviews on various websites like Travelocity, cruisemates, and other booking agents that have reviews available. There were a 'few' that did not have good reviews. Carnival is not everyone's idea of a classy vacation. I read reviews of the same sailing where one person loved it and another hated it. I was not scared away.

Hi All-

No use for camp carnival, sorry.

All the groups of children i saw seemed to be having a good time.

The weather was good, very hot on the islands.

Motion varied. Some days were very calm, other days i felt very sick from all the motion.

Good to hear the Legend is still doing a great job. I never could find the log either but maybe I should book another sailing and try again!

Happy Cruising

Ok here goes the review.

Embarkation: This must be seperated into two parts. At the beginning everything is handled by the New York Port Authority. This was a complete mess. They sent us back and forth to different doors, it was chaos. Once you make it to the carnival reps, everything goes very smoothly. We had taken advantage of the Fun Pass and were at the desk for only about 5 minutes.

The Ship: The Legend is by far the nicest ship i have seen (previously sailed on the Celebrity Horizon and Carnival Victory). The decor is very elegant. The Ship is a little hard to find your way around at first, but it is well worth it.

Dining Room: Our Waiter was excellent and all the food was terriffic. I did hear some people saying they did not enjoy the food but i think it was fabulous, never had anything that wasnt good.

Supper Club: Decided to try this after reccommendations from this board. Definitly worth the 25 dollars. The Service and Food are both Superior. If you order Cesear Salad it is prepared right in front of you. Ordered the Surf and Turf which was excellent. I Finished with the Creme Brulee for dessert, very very good.

San Juan: Did not like this port at all. There really is not much to do. Decided to take a 2 hour tour, the cab driver did not speak very good english, we only stayed on the tour for 45 minutes because we could not understand him. We Went to the casino for a few minutes and then decided to just go back to the ship for the remainder of the night.

St. Thomas: This place was gorgeous. We got off the ship around 7. None of the stores open until about 9, so we decided to take a tour. The cab driver we found, had a brand new air conditioned car and was very nice and knew alot about the island and those surrounding it. The tour was about 90 minutes. We went from one end of the Island to the next, stopped to take pictures and get out and see some points of interest. When the tour was over we were dropped off downtown. This is the big shopping area and has very good deals, mostly on jewelry. There are many stores, so look around and compare prices, always try to make a deal. If you are willing to use cash, many times you can get a better deal. After downtown shopping we went back to the ship for lunch. We then went across the street to havensight mall to shop some more. There are alot of the same stores there as downtown (downtown has the better deals). At Havensight I was able to find souvenirs (T-Shirts, keychains, etc.) St. Thomas is wonderful, make sure to get off early in this port so you can take as much time as you like looking around.

Tortola: We were here on Sunday. As soon as you get off, you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere... YOU ARE! We were told their is nothing to do, but go to the beach and we are not beach people. We looked around at a little flea market that was set up and then spent the rest of the day on the ship.

Activities: There is always something to do on board. Went to 2 shows, the Guest Talent Show and Jazz Hut which is one of the "Vegas Style" Shows. Both were very good. Attended two of the art auctions, they are interesting, make sure to go to the preview or you will have no idea what is being shown. The Captains Reception and the Past Guest Party were both very nice, free drinks and snacks were good. Only made it to Tea Time on the Last Day, but it was very relaxing.

Cruise Director: Chris Jefferson. He was very funny and energetic. I liked him very much. He will be leaving soon to go to the Jubilee, I believe he said that Brett Alans would be replacing him, not 100 percent sure on that.

Debarkation: We carried our own luggage off. A lot of people do this. It was a little chaotic, but everything moved along pretty quickly.

Overall: This was a fantastic cruise. The food was great and the entertainment was also. Even though i did not like 2 of the 3 ports, there was always something to do onboard, i like sea days best anyway. I would definitly recommend this cruise to anyone.

Anymore Questions, feel free to ask,

Elissa

We were on the Legend in April, it is a lovely ship, only complaint we had was the water in the spa was not hot enough, they said that older people cannot stand "hot water" so they keep it where it would be most comfortable for them also, other than that, no complaints at all.

Thanks for the review. Glad to hear it was good, we leave in a couple months. Roughly, how long was the total embarkation? Also, how far is the casino in San Juan from the ship? Walking distance? Thanks!!!

I was on this cruise as well. I got to the pier around 11:30 am. It took a total of almost 3 hours to get on the ship. The longest lines by far were waiting to walk throught he metal detector. They only had 2 setup and 100s of people in line. After that point it is very fast, literally 5 minutes to get through the funpass line and get on the ship.

I would say Klei3354 was right about the embarkation time. We were very close to the front of the line, so we didnt have a long wait getting through the metal detectors.

The Casino in San Juan is right across the street from the Pier. It will take you 1 minute to walk there.
