davide2002 Posted June 30 #1 Share Posted June 30 Hi everyone. A friend is planning to travel to Italy this August with his son and mother (who is 80) and his teen son.. They are going to be in Rome for 3 days but have a potential 8 days prior to fill up. Can anyone offer advice as to what would be a good use of their time given that his mom is travelling with him(totally mobile but is 80) so heat may be a factor?? Is it better to do a chunk of time in the central region? He's open to whatever would suit him best. He has been to Amalfi coast already. Thank you as always! CruiserBruce Posted June 30 #2 Share Posted June 30 There is great train service in Italy. Train to Florence or Venice, for 2 or 3 days, for example. Or maybe Naples.

They could consider going a little bit further north where it could be cooler, to perhaps either the Lake Como area, or to the Lake Garda area. Both scenic areas, but trying to book now for August could be tricky as August is the busiest month for Europeans from most counries taking their vacations and many areas in italy and even in neighbouring countries such as Croatia and Southern France will have had accommodation fully booked for ages already.. Due to them leaving it as late as they have, they may have little choice and will need to book whatever they can wherever they can, whether it is their preference or not. Sorry. Rare kctwinmommy Posted June 30 #4 Share Posted June 30 Just based on my very limited experience there this past May, I would say do smaller things and early in the day. As you mentioned, the heat could be an issue, as well as the crowds.
