Tryingtocruise Posted July 16 #1 Share Posted July 16 Hi all! We are coming into Nordfjordeid on 7/29 and scheduled to arrive in port at 11:00 and Geiranger on 7/31, arriving in port at 07:00. I know cruising up the fjords themselves is really the highlight and what I want to see. Can anyone give me a rough idea of what time we will actually be entering the fjords? I'll try to ask someone on the ship (HAL Rotterdam) beforehand, but as an over-planner, I'd love a rough idea now. Also, I plan on being on deck during the exit, but I know dinner and other activities may interrupt that viewing. Thanks!
JohnAlleb77 Posted July 16 #2 Share Posted July 16 Its not very far from the far coast to Nordfjordeid, around 1,5 hour.
hallasm Posted July 16 #3 Share Posted July 16 The crossing of the Nordfjord to Nordfjordeid takes a few hours - the beginning of the Nordfjord is not that impressive - I would suggest an hour before arrival. Geirangerfjord is far more impressive - before you are passing Sunnylvsfjorden, which is a branch off the Storfjorden. The Geirangerfjord itself is 15 km - it takes about an hour to sail through the Geirangerfjord - just before Geiranger the seven sisters waterfalls are passed - however, jehåg would recommend being on the upper deck at sunrise. kaisatsu Posted July 16 #4 Share Posted July 16 And remember that you’ll be sailing the same route again on the way out. I generally prefer to try to catch both directions, since the angle of the sun (and possibly the weather) will be different, but I am not a morning person, and a 7am port arrival is pushing my limits!
