I like the obstructed OV's because they are floor to ceiling windows. It sounds like you are in one of these on deck 4. I am not of the opinion a balcony is necessary for Alaska. Years ago, I(solo) sailed Alaska not in a balcony. It was fine. You are on the public decks so much. In 2017 we(with dh) in a Neptune and this was very nice. Have a wonderful cruise! You are correct about our cabin being on deck 4, so we do appreciate the large windows. We like having a balcony for AK so we can enjoy Glacier Bay and other places w/o the crowds, but thought for the savings, we'd give an OV a try. Bonus for us was snagging one that is not actually looking into a lifeboat. I know from having an inside for HI that I can spend enough time in common spaces that I don't actually need a balcony, but DH hasn't tested it yet. He really really enjoys his morning cuppa by himself on the balcony. Our first time to AK was in an aft wrap, so we got spoiled quickly.🫣 14

On the 2 sailings on the Koningsdam we did upgrade for about $100 per cruise for balcony, but we didn't use it. I DO understand what you are saying about the aft wrap as we were really spoiled with the Neptune. Wishing you a wonderful cruise. I will let you know what we end up with for our November cruise(Boston to FLL).

Cruzin Terri Posted August 31 #80 Share Posted August 31 Good evening to all. I am really late to the party today. i started to read all the posts this morning and got distracted and never got back here. Thank you to all that contribute to this thread to keep it going . Thank you Sandi to stepping up to start us off each day while Rich is enjoying his cruise to Japan. Thank you to Eva as you fill in for Debbie. Thank you to Vanessa, Ann and Dixie for your undying dedication. Today was finally a day that I literally did very little. I finally got an opportunity to catch up on some rest. It has been a busy week. Hope every one had a good day. Terri
Tbay Posted August 31 #81 Share Posted August 31 Thank you to all who keep the Daily up and running. I enjoy reading, although I don't post often. My thoughts and prayers go to all who are suffering from medical conditions, and those who are grieving. Hoping better days are ahead for you. @grapau27 Thank you for the good wishes. Finally packed and ready to go. Looking forward to just a drive to the port. Even in the rain. @JazzyVThanks for including me in the upcoming cruises. We are celebrating our anniversary, but it is 50, not 59. I hope you soon resolve the dizziness issues. Have a good long weekend everyone. 12

Rare TiogaCruiser Posted August 31 #84 Share Posted August 31 Just to finish up on Quebec City today- all aboard changed from 8:00p, to 5:30, then 4:30 as of yesterday. The reason- water depth/tide. We reportedly had 2 meters of clearance at THE bridge. There were lots of pax outside to see the spectacle. And as we (just barely) cleared each bridge the Bridge sounded a long blast from the whistle. Lots of excitement and fun! (We guessed that there might have been a few “code browns” on the bridge.) 13

The only ones I know of are HAL (but apparently not all cruises), Queen Mary 2, and Crystal but like anything in life there are no guaranties. Crystal Serenity left Los Angeles Tuesday on a 17-day Panama Canal cruise Los Angeles to New York. The first night out, just a few hours out of Los Angeles, the ship had to turn back for a medical evacuation (yup, the Priest), They are trying to arrange a last minute substitute to join the ship somewhere, but not yet. Quite a turnaround, prayers for the Priest. Roy On P&O some officers are part time priests. 2
