Honest Review of Costa Med 4/2-4/9

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

This was my first time cruising, so I didn't have another to compare to BUT-- I did read hundreds of reviews and visited plenty of websites prior to cruising.. here is my take:

THE STAFF: THE NICEST PEOPLE I HAVE ENCOUNTERED IN QUITE SOME TIME- AND REMEMBER THEY ARE ON THOSE SHIPS FOR 6-8 MONTHS AT A TIME- I gave EVERYONE extra tips.

The cabins/staterooms: Perfect size, extremely clean, balcony room a must and so enjoyable in the morning when pulling into port at sunrise. TV selection not great but who wants to sit inside and watch TV??? Bed, yes the matresses were small and hard but I called PRIOR to departure (costa's 800 line) and requested the mattress toppers, which were already on the bed when we arrived!

Dinners in the main dining room: Excellent food, great selection and my waiter and maitre d were so friendly and fantastic, we danced with them and took several pictures. On the 2nd night in the dining room the maitre d and myself had a long conversation about italy after which he sent over a very expensive bottle of chardonnay free of charge

Other food: breakfast food was typical, eggs, omelette station, toast and bagels, plenty of fruit, bacon , sausage-- cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee, juice, tea.

OVERALL FOOD: I didn't lose weight due to disliking the food, but i did eat more fruit and salad in general, so I did lose a few pounds, but that was purely my choice not to overreat and feel terrible upon disembarkation.

ACTIVITIES ON SHIP: I can't offer much help on this one, since I only attended the talent show the last evening, which was poor, but to be expected. I did not travel with children but there were PLENTY of activites for them, including ceramic painting, water colors, teen night at the disco, karaoke etc...

PORTS OF CALL:

(not in correct order)

Yes, cozumel was devastated but we had a wonderful time- we took a cab to Mr Sanchos beach club (about 10 minutes)-- free entry, $5 mango coolada's and mixed drinks- plenty of fish to see while snorkeling (right off the beach- 5 feet of water) then we enjoyed the afternoon shopping

Cayman Islands--- the kayak tour was very fun and you are able to snorkel after arriving at the destination on the 7 mile beach- this most definitely the safest of the destinations!

Ocho Rios, Jamaica- upon getting off the pier my mother and I were offered 4 different kinds of drugs and "safe sex"- be careful and I suggest taking an excursion at this port.... we took the san san yacht tour- was fantastic- we had a BLAST dancing and listening to music while on our way to the dunns river falls- once there we climbed the falls and then returned to the ship to be taken to a reef- jumped off the boat and got great photos underwater of the fish.

Key West- a good "intro port"- we shopped, checked out the famous houses and were on our way...

A FEW HIGHLIGHTS:

THE PASTA AND PIZZA IS AMAZING

ROOM SERVICE VERY LIMITED BUT AGAIN, NOT IN ROOM MUCH

THE CASINO HAD A LOT OF WINNERS (but i'm sure there were more losers)

PORTS OF CALL ARE SHORT, BUT TO BE EXPECTED ON A CRUISE

PLAN AHEAD FOR EXCURSIONS AND YOU WILL BE LESS PRESSED FOR TIME

DON'T WAIT IN LINE TO REGISTER YOUR CREDIT CARD THE FIRST DAY- I WAITED UNTIL THE 6TH DAY

THIS PARTICULAR SHIP HAD A LOT OF FAMILIES, COUPLES, NEWLYWEDS AND SENIORS- VERY DIVERSE

THE SPA WAS FANTASTIC ( I spent over 500 in there alone!!!)

jmoraski8---I'm with you! I was on the March 19 sailing. Had the best time. Our cabin steward was fantastic, was able to get mattress toppers immediately. He was sooo attentive. The Today was on our bed when we returned at night, we had chocolates on our pillows, ice 3 times a day. What more can I say.

The dining room staff was wonderful! So pleasant and helpful. Always with a smile, and time for a little chat. Our glasses were always full, they knew exactly when to bring coffee, and after we had decided to skip a night in the dining room, the next night as soon as we came in, they came up to see if we were ok, since we weren't there the night before. Italian night was fun. Didn't do the Toga thing, though.

Went to some shows. You didn't miss much. That's the part of the whole week that I was disappointed with.

Can't wait for the next one, which will most likely be Costa!:D
