Just back from the Legend 4/26/06-5/4/06

Recommended Posts

My friend and I just enjoyed the best 8 days together on the Legend, Were do I start this is our 4th cruise just 2 mom's away from husbands and kids We sailed out of New York on April 26th and boy was it cool, but we stood on the deck just to see Old Lady Liberty beautiful, The first sea day was very rough due to a low weather storm the boat was very rocky that day again due to storm, nothing you can do about that. The next day things were beautiful didn't even know you on the boat. We went to the following locations and I will tell you about each

San Juan very warm and very busy we were there during one of their biggest Arts & Crafts events, got to see the Fortress in Old San Juan and then onto new San Juan with those beautiful million dollar Apartments!!!

St.Thomas very beautiful Island would go back in a heart beat beautiful beaches and lots of shopping don't go for your first bargain in jewlery keep walking bet you get it cheaper two doors down, Look for Oprah the donkey cute she even comes with sunglasses and lipstick give a tip and you can have a picture with her. GREAT BARGAINS!!!

Tortola oh my no words to describe this Island it is beautiful it has no McDonalds, no shopping malls just the local folks we went on the Lambert Beach Excursions this resort is absolutely beautiful the Photo opportunitities on the way to this resort is out of this world, The beach was just so serene, we couldnt swim in ocean due to storm but the waves and lunch were out of this world exspecially the curry chicken and ribs.

We read many negatives about this boat before we left but let me tell you this boat is gorgous, the staff and people aboard were very friendly and no matter where you were someone always talked to you made alot of friends.

Mark in Billies Piano bar is the nicest person in the world can play anything from ABC's to Led Zepplin on the piano stop by and tell him Hi from the cruise critic gang and ask about Honytonkbidonikdonk from Tracy Atkins will make you laugh...See Mark some of us can leave positives about our cruise.

Oh the last thing The Golden Fleece Supper Club out of this world worth every bit of the 30.00 you pay per person extra, they spoil you they show you the cuts of meat, make the salads right at your table and the desserts oh my try the citrus cheesecake or the chocalate something or other it was awesome.

I know this is a long review but I wanted everyone to know yes the boat can be rocky nothing more than anyother boat except for the day of the storm, the staff and people FRIENDLY and the boat clean very clean....

Mark keep up the good work look forward to seeing you again in the futre had a great time singing American Pie you know the two girls who requested it the last night before you had ran off to Pee (LOL)

I hope everyone can find something good out of this because I sure did...:) :) :p ;) Cheryl myway100766@aol.com email me if you have any questions we stayed in room 7176 forward veranda

We are on the Legend in 4 weeks and it will be our 2nd time on her. First time on a CTN out of NYC a couple of years ago. Never been on an 8 day cruise. Brand new grandson (3 weeks old). Hope I don't get too homesick!

Was the fruit plentiful at buffet?

Did you see any sea life the 2 days at sea down and back?

Thanks!

What did you think about having an 8 day cruise instead of 7? Did you find enough to do on sea days, since the Legend isn't one of the bigger ships? Did you see lots of teens, and what did they seem to be doing? Did you like the new bedding? Any tips for us? Thank you!

Hi Cheryl, I leave on June 13th for the 8 day cruise and I can't wait. Do you go and listen to the Music Mix Band? Are they any good and how was the buffet food? Thanks Mary49

I missed my three granddaughters so you will probally miss your new grandson. I don't feel that there was a big fruit selection. We saw a sea turtle other than that not really looking having to much fun enjoying our once a year get together to cathc up on things...Cheryl

The extra day was nice you just are a little wobbly on legs first day back to the real world, There was plenty to do I feel on sea days go get a swedish massage or just relax and enjoy the sunshine. There were not alot of teens on this cruise great array of diiferent age groups never knew you were on a boat with over 2000 people. The bedding is awesome they even try to sell it to you at the end of the cruise. My only tip is remember your cruise is what you make of it and not what anyone else thinks all of our feedback is just to show our experience I would do this cruise again in a heartbeat...Cheryl

Thanks for the review

How did the casinos treat you ? How was the night life ?

After the San Juan stop I heard that there is a midnight buffet, since we have to embark at about this time and people have been hanging out was the buffet a lively event ?

Any particular night that the clubs were full ? did you prefer the Piano bar or Disco ?

Also how were the seas during the 1st and 2nd night/day were they ruff ? Did the ship toss and turn a lot ?

As you can see I AM VERY EXCITED :p about my cruise and would like to know everything.

Since a cruise is what you make of it and I am a easy going type of person I know my GF and myself will have a wonderful time.

Any details or hints that you provide would be appreciated, I will pass on any information to the "ROLL CALL"

Thanks in advance :D

Hi All,

I was on this ship also! Magnificant ship, beautiful decor! We were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary with another couple also celebrating their 25th! This was our 4th cruise. This was our first out of NYC. The view of Manhattan was fantastic, The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, The Verranzano Narrows Bridge, etc.

The trip down was a bit rocky, due to the weather. After that passed, it was clear sailing! Carnival's Staff were pleasant and accomodating. We had the late seating for dinner which was great because after a day of activities it gave us the opportunity to take a nap before dinner. That revived us for the evening's entertainment. The Vegas Style shows (costumes and special effects were great).

We went to see Mark in the piano bar. He has a great personality and was a lot of fun. We played "name that tune" with Mark one afternoon and my friend won the "ship on a stick"! Also went to Karaoke one evening. Lot's of fun! The casino was fun with the slot tournaments and black jack tournaments. The slots paid off for me in the beginning but by the end I lost. Oh well at least it kept me going for a while!

We ate at the Supper Club one evening. Besides the delicious food, they had entertainment, a duet who sang popular love songs. We requested our Wedding song and danced. That was a nice way to celebrate our 25th.

Now for the excursions:

1. We went on the Bacardi Rum Tour in Puerto Rico. They give a history of the rum and 2 tickets each for free drinks. A van takes you to the facility and cost was about $40 per person. It was an interesting tour.

After the tour, we went back to the port and there was a craft festival. We walked around took pictures and shopped.

2. We took a cab to Saffire Beach in St. Thomas. This was recommended to us by another passenger who said that Magen's Bay Beach gets too crowded. It was a great choice, the beach was absolutely gorgeous. There were facilities there, bar, restrooms, etc. Plenty of chairs on the beach.

3. We went to Lambert Beach in Tortola. It was an experience getting to the beach, going up the mountain on narrow roads, but the view from way up there was magnificant. Swimming was off-limits due to the rough waters. This beach is on the Atlantic side not the Caribbean side. They had a pool on sight, but we just couldn't resist sitting on the beach and watching those waves! We did go down to the water and wet our feet, but a wave came and hit us waist high. We knew not to go any further! It was a very beautiful beach. They also had a buffet style lunch. Cost for this was $85 per person.

Back to the ship! We spent some time on the deck taking the sun. There was always a waiter or waitress asking if you wanted a drink. Plenty of food for lunch, pizza, hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, deli sandwiches, salads, oriental food, etc.

We took a behind the scenes "back stage" tour. We saw the dressing room, costumes and a guide explained how tight a schedule the entertainers had. Very interesting. We also played Deal or No Deal Bingo.

They had a Legends concert where the passengers put on a show dressed as famous people, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, James Brown, etc. That was fun to watch!! The comedian had us hysterical one evening!!

All in all it was a great vacation and a wonderful way to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary!!!:o ;)

Hi to CC-Cruiser!! Lambert Beach was beautiful wasn't it!!!

Just one more thing I forgot to tell you about. They always have photographers to take your picture, before you board the ship they snap your picture, during dinner they come to take a picture, after dinner there are photographers with different sceneries to take a picture on the 2nd level, and when you get off at each port they snap a picture!! So keep smiling at all times!:) The next day they have your pictures posted on the 3rd level, so you may purchase the ones you like!!;)

Oh and we did the "Old Time" gangster photos, which was fun. I didn't realize we had an audience!! The pants they gave my husband to wear kept falling off him as we were taking the picture. So I kept lifting them, when I turned around there were people standing there hysterical and snapping pictures of us!!!

Thanks for the help.

What time did you get to the pier in New York? How was the embarkation process? I will be on the Legend in three days!

We drove in, there were 4 of us, so three of us got out with the luggage. We parked in the parking garage right near the port of the Legend.

We had VIP check-in so we didn't get there until 1:30 and we were on the ship by 2:30. If you do not have VIP check-in I suggest you get there for 11:30 - 12:00. There is a line you have to go through first for security and then another for check-in. It was organized. I did notice the lines were moving quickly.:o Have a wonderful trip!!

Saffire Beach was a gorgeous beach, calm waters. We did not go snorkeling, but from what I know there were people snorkeling. You can either rent the snorkeling equipment on the ship or at Saffire Beach. I am not sure if there is organized snorkeling on this beach or people just went out on their own. This excursion was something we did on our own, not through Carnival. We did love this beach!:o

Thanks so much for the info! I am so excited to sail on her 5/28!!!! Thanks also for the info on the Golden Fleece, as my DF and I are very excited to try it out.

Can you tell me what nights the formal nights were? We are thinking we might go to the Golden Fleece on the night we are in San Juan as we have both been to the island before. We just want to make sure not to miss a formal night in the dining room.

Thanks again for your review... It made me even more excited :D

We ate at the Golden Fleece Supper Club on the second evening of sailing and that was a formal night. The second formal night was the evening after the last excursion. One thing I did forget to mention they give you a complimentary picture of you when you dine at the supper club.

Have a wonderful trip!!:o

Myway and Freehold, thanks for the great reviews! We're sailing on 5/20 (10 days!!!).

amy, I've been to St Thomas twice before and have been to Coki beach both times and I love it! There are rocks at the edge of the beach with steps cut into them and as soon as you step down into the water there are fish swimming around your ankles (bring some food to feed em!). They also had a floating platform set up out in the water (I'm a bad estimate of distance) that you could swim out to sit/lay on or jump off of. You had to rent chairs and umbrellas, about $10 for the day (if I remember) but they come down and take your food and drink orders on the beach. Also you can rent your snorkel equipment there (about $10 for the day also, I believe). I haven't been back in about 3 years so forgive me if this info has changed. When we went, it was very empty, only about 10-15 other people. We had chosen Coki because we'd always heard Meagan's bay was very crowded, but I hear Coki is geting popular/a little crowded as well.. We're planning on visiting Coral World, which is next to Coki then hanging out on the beach for a while.
