Freedom in Boston

Recommended Posts

Would anyone know specific times for the Freedom's sailing into and out of Boston Harbor. And, also the times it will be docked at Black Falcon Pier. Thanks

It's not going to dock @ Black Falcon. It will use the dock where the POA came in last year and the JFK.

GREGD,

Would you please give me a little more information about Freedom in Boston. We are a family of 12 going on the July 2nd sailing. We would love to see her in Boston but have no idea where or when we would be able to view her. Thanks in advance

Jan,

Castel Island would be the best place to see her under way (arriving/departing) If my buddy and I get the boat in the water by then then you can rest assured that we will take a stroll on down to Black Falcon to see her. I'll take lots of pictures. She'll be in Boston may 19 21 &22. Unfortunetly RCL is keeping ths times very hush-hush

Hope this helps.

Jman21; No, not exactly. Hundreds of Travel agents, media and Diamond Crown & Anchor club members have been invited to sail upon her either for 2 nights or 1 night; 5/19 & 20, or 5/21. I do know that on 5/19, she is scheduled to depart at 12 noon. My friend who has 22 RCI/Celebrity cruise credits, got an invitation to sail just last week. Our TA and her entire agency management staff are sailing upon her.

I too am looking for a shoreside location to view the ship. I would like to be able to see the Port Side. I don't have a boat. Don't miss this Friday's Today show - 3 hrs. from NYC on TV for the Christening and Barry Manilow.

Bon Voyage

gotcha, I did not realize it was in port for one night preview cruises. I thought it was there just for the public viewing. Oh well, maybe I will still take the trip on down to take a look and then roam around the city for the day.

thanks

I am off that Friday and planning to do just that. I will leave NH after the commuting traffic and drive to the pier area. I had hoped they would do a "luncheon tour" as they are doing in NY/NJ for agents and guests. I have done this with my TA's complements many times and it was great. No sign of such an event at Boston. There is one in NJ on the 13th.

Bon Voyage

I received my Freedom Confirmation for the two night, 5/19 & 5/20, from RCI last week. Embarkation on Friday, May 19 is from noon to 3: PM, and debarkation is 8: AM Sunday.

It would be nice if MASSPORT/Boston did something special to welcome the ship when it arrives/sails. When we did the transatlantic from Amsterdam to Boston on the Serenade's inaugural, nothing was done to welcome the ship....what a disappointment as other ports have always gone over and above with special events.

The two night event requires appropriate ID's and confirmed names on the manifest. We don't have our stateroom assignment as it will be provided

at embarkation], however, we do have a veranda - DH "won" it at a beach volley ball tournament last year in South Beach.

Additional notes: Dining is open seating, all onboard services and parking are complimentary - beauty salon, spa, casino and gift shops will be

by credit card. Gratuities have been prepaid, though we always take care of any special staff member when we attend events such as this. Evening attire: Casual first night, Black tie on the second night.

Darcy,

You mentioned that you are debarking on Sunday at 8AM. Do you how long Freedom will be docked on Sunday. I plan on driving to Boston on the 21st and I was looking for the times she will be there.

Thanks

There will be a one night cruise on Sunday, so I expect the ship will be at the pier until around 4 or 5pm. It will be back in on Monday morning and after disembarking its passengers will leave for its journey to Miami.

Incidentally, our invitation indicates that the ship will be at Black Falcon pier, but if it is elsewhere, I imagine that RCI will arrange to shuttle passengers from the Black Falcon garage to wherever the ship is positioned.

Our invitations indicate Black Falcon, however, on Sunday, the Norwegian Majesty will be in port for its Bermuda cruise. Since the Majesty uses Black Falcon, there may be some last minute changes for the Freedom. We may be on the other side - where the dry dock is located. RCI is running shuttles from Logan airport, so I'll trust them to provide something from the parking garage to the more distant dockage area if necessary.

If you want to view the ship while it's in port, I would suggest stopping by mid-morning after the two nighters leave the ship and before the crowds and traffic increase with the next group.

Thanks Darcy, saw that conflict on Massport.com. Where do you think Warehouse 6 & 7 are? What's on the opposite shore off Summer and E. 1st. Streets? I am not in Boston but looked at maps trying to figure out a place to take photo's from. Land area shows empty; no named businesses on the shore side. Could that be a staging area for Big Dig or construction supplies?

Black Flacon can comfortably handle both ships although it would be more of a showcase if the ship were at the wherehouses. This would be the same place that the POA came in last year and the JFK docks.

At the end of Black Falcon and Drydock Ave. are a group of warehouses. The Freedom will be docked in this area. Yes, the length of Black Falcon may be able to handle two ships, but I wonder about the luggage & passengers from the Majesty added to the traffic coming and going with the Freedom in port. Working at a firm on Sea Port Lane, I have first hand knowledge of Boston gridlock.

With the Freedom at the end of the EDIC/Massport dockage area, traffic will be a problem. Best bet would be Castle Island.

Last October, the Jewel of the Seas, Norwegian Jewel, and the World ResidenSea were all docked at Black Falcon at the same time, so I believe that the area can readily accommodate both the Norwegian Majesty (680 ft. in length) and the Freedom of the Seas (1,112 ft). The Jewel of the Seas and Norwegian Jewel togetherare approximately 1927 feet long, so Freedom and Majesty should not have a problem coexisting. If not, RCI will certainly make arrangements for an orderly embarkation and disembarkation.
