Hi, Will be spending one night in Maui in February while on Pride of Aloha cruise. We were considering staying off the ship at a beach resort. Has anyone doen this? Any suggestions? How can I get from the port to a hotel???

Thanks for your ideas.

All beach resorts are going to be quite a distance from Kahului where NCLA docks on Maui. Your choices will be between the Wailea/Makena area (south Maui) and Kaanapali/Kapalua area (west Maui) -- which is essentially the opposite side of the island from Kahului. Driving time from Kahului to Wailea area is approx 30-45 minutes depending on traffic and from Kahului to Kaanapali area is approx. 45 minutes to 1-1/2 hours (again depending on traffic). Because of the long distance time, I highly recommend that you rent a car as opposed to take a taxi - it'll be a LOT cheaper. There are not that many roads in Maui so it's hard to get lost.

Just a warning though - beach resorts on Maui are NOT cheap. You're looking at a minimum of $200 a night at the cheapest (+ resort fees, + taxes) and goes rapidly up from there.
