Conquest Review - 6/4/06

Recommended Posts

We just got back from our cruise on the Conquest. Here is my brief review. i wish I had more time to be more detailed but work will not let up.

Drove down the night before and stayed at a Hampton Inn near NASA. Very nice place to stay. We left at 10:00 the next morning for the 30 minute drive to the pier.

We dropped our luggage and family off at the pier and parked at EZ Cruise. This is the second time we have used EZ Cruise and have been pleased both times. We walked back to the pier, 2 blocks, and were in the departure lounge at 11:00. They started to board about 11:30 and we were on board the Conquest on the way to the Lido buffet by 12:15.

THE FOOD

Dining room (Renoir) was hit and miss but overall we did have some very good food. I thought the food was much better than the last time we sailed Carnival 6 years ago. Our service was not outstanding but was very competent. I had no complaints.

The Point was outstanding and well worth the $30.

Lido buffet was fair at best but then, it was a buffet. Far better were the grill (great burgers), the sandwich place, Sur Mer (fish and chips) and the pizza. GREAT PIZZA!!

Room service was very prompt and courteous.

BAR SERVICE

I included this to just give a shout out to our bar waiter in the dining room and casino - TATIANA. Awesome job! She remebered us from the first night and was very friendly and kept checking on us.

The bar service was universally good. Better than out last experience on Royal Caribbean.

ROOM

We had a balcony cabin on deck 6, port forward. Our room steward was very good. Again, not great but he worked hard and kept a very messy room clean. it was a hard job as we had 4 in the room - myself, DW, and twin DS age 9.

SEA DAYS

We preferred to hang out by the pool so didn't participate in mant below deck activities but we definitely enjoyed our sea days. We had the best weather of the cruise on the sea days.

ENTERTAINMENT

The Las vegas style shows were not very good in our opinion but the rest of the entertainment in the main show lounge (Tolouse Latrec) was very good. We really enjpyed the Motown show. Let's get it on!

The entertainer in the piano bar was dull. No life in there and we love the piano bar normally, usually spending the majority of our evenings there. Not on this cruise.

We thought that Todd Wittmer, our cruise director, was top notch. he really added to our cruise experience. I say this in spite of the fact that he looks and sounds exactly like Ryan Sechrest! Good job Todd, I would like to sail with you again.

PORTS

Jamaica - we went to Sunset Beach and had a great time despite a great deal of rain - probably the beginnings of TS Alberto. I reccomend Sunset Beach if you are looking for a beach day. We taked to some folks who went to Margaritaville and they said they had a great time there and in town. They said the vendors were not as agressive as their last trip. Also talked to folks who did the zip line and had a blast.

Grand Cayman - still rained a little bit but not as much as Jamaica. We had been to GC many times so we went to 7 Mile Beach on the Beach Brael tour and then shopped.

Cozumel - we took the Dolphin Swim excurion and it was incredible. What marvelous animals! We had to go to Puerto Adventuras on the mainland as Hurricane Wilma destroyed the dolphin facility on Coz. As a result we took a ferry to the mainland and the crossing was very rough. Many sick people on the ride over including 2 in our group. They all recovered immediately on reaching land (or the ship).

For the most part the ship was extremely stable the whole trip except for the night we left Coz. Even then it was not too back. Both members on our group who were seasick on the ferry were not sick at all on Friday night.

DEBARKATION

We did self assist. Got ourselves and our luggae down to the Toulouse Latrec Lounge by 6:30 am. When they started self assist at 7:00 we were in the first group off and were in our car and on our way by 7:20.

OVERALL

No cruise is bad - its all good. We had a great vacation and would recommend the Conquest. However, I think I still favor Royal Caribbean. Ships are classier and food, entertainment and service tend to be a little better. To each his own. My grade for the Conquest - B+, our vacation - A+!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Rob

Hey! I was one of your fellow passengers on Conquest last week. I have to second your comments on the bar staff. Although we didn't get Tatiana we had Vasilena from Bulgaria as our server at the Casino, and she was awesome. She also remembered us from the first day and was really friendly and even learned some Spanish from us... from then on, everytime she came around she would greet us and made small talk in Spanish.

Great to read you also had a great Vacation!

We took a cab from the pier to Sunset Beach. It is very close. The cost was $2 per person each way. Have fun.

Great review. Thanks for all the info. I have a question. What night did you do the Point, and what was the dress code?

We went to the point on Wednesday. Dress was upscale resort casual. Saw polos and slacks to jackets without tie for the men.

She went over to Conquest when the Elation left Galveston. Easy on the eyes as well.:)
