Dawn Review 6/17-6/24

Recommended Posts

Just returned from the Dawn with my husband and 13 yr old son. We enjoyed this ship alot. We are Gold members and were really impressed with the ship and the staff. This was one of best NCL cruises so far.:)

I will give you some of the highlights of what we enjoyed the most:

  • Specialty restaurants: Much better food than the Main dining rooms.
  • LeBistro: Ate here twice, chocolate fondue is a must for dessert and the Surf and Turf was excellent.
  • Cagney's was just as good as the LeBistro, but better appetizers.
  • Salsa: Great Tex Mex for a ship
  • Teppanyaki was fun and food was good. Try the scallops & shrimp combo. Alot of food and great atmosphere.
  • LaTrattoria: Not bad, but have had better Italian food.
  • Blue Lagoon: Great for late night snacks
  • Aqua was the only main dining room we ate in and was not impressed with that evenings menu.
  • Make dinner reservations on the first day from your room. I called all the restaurants and got prime seating times for the whole week. If you wait you will not get in after day 2.

Cabin:8630 was ok for the three of us. We had a window and was able to see the Statue of Liberty from our room. Plenty of closet space and bathroom was nice with shower doors for a change.

Entertainment:

  • Cruise director Matt Baker was pretty good.
  • Fire & Ice were excellent. The Tina Turner show was something not to miss. The room was packed!!
  • Shows were good, only went to 2 of them
  • Dan Hodge was the piano player and he was also good.

Pool:

  • Not enough chairs, pool hogs were out at early as 7:00 am.
  • Staff would remove items and towels left after a long period of time and this would stir up alot of angry people when they returned. Two ladies actually got in an argument over the chairs and security had to come up to the pool area.
  • Pool in the spa was $15.00 per day to use.

Perks for being gold members:

  • Passed about 30 people waiting in Lattitudes line to check in
  • Welcome fruit basket and strawberries dipped in chocolate the first day.
  • Appetizers delivered every night around 5:30 to our room
  • VIP tender tickets for Great Stirrup Cay
  • VIP tickets for disembarkment
  • Concierge Claudio Schulze was excellent in remembering things we asked for.
  • Captains Cocktail party
  • Lattitudes Cocktail party

Teen Program:

My 13 yr old son really enjoyed the program. He was kept busy the whole week. We only had dinner on the first night with him, as he ate with all the kids the rest of the week. He enjoyed the Teen Murder Mystery dinner.

Spa:

Pool was $15 to use. This was to keep the kids out. I don't agree with charging, they should just moniter that pool better. The couples massage was great.

Margarita Tasting was well worth the $15.00. Four full size drinks. My husband had a good buzz going for the rest of the night after that. Met some really nice people there.

I hope this was not too long of a review. Feel free to ask questions!

Nice review, dymondgrl! We were on the 6/10 cruise.

Question: How are the different latitudes levels determined? We've been on 4 cruises with NCL and are still shown as Bronze. I'm assuming there's a silver level before Gold?

I've looked all over the NCL website and can't find anything.

I believe these are the level breaks

1-5 Bronze

6-10 - Silver

10-14 - gold

14+ Platinum

shoreguy, you are right with the different levels. We only need one more for platinum. I can't imagine what else they will offer at that level.

Officially

Priority Restaurant Reserve

Reception with Senior Staff

The platinum only reception was great - 12 passengers 12 Senior Staff members - A nice chance to sit and comfortably chat.

I also got a free dinner with wine from the Latitudes Manager onboard
