Choice of JS on Enchantment

Recommended Posts

I think that I've been reading here that on a Vision class ship, an aft JS is not always the way to go.

Please compare 8670 and 8640 for me, if you have first hand knowledge.

Many thanks.

I'll be checking in !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sheesh, Wrona, only been on her once, and it was in a GS. When we booked this last December while onboard the Sovereign, I could only book a JS. I thought that I had "snagged" a prize aft, but the more I read here, the more people seem to say that the non-corner aft balconies aren't THAT much bigger than side balconies for a JS, and the cabin is configured weirdly, so that a side JS actually has more room.

We're booked in 8670, but 8640 just popped up as available, and I put it on hold. :D

Ah So, wise guru!

BTW, what do you mean pulling out the legal terms? I go to CC to escape that stuff. Of course, that person will probably never understand that term.:p

I can't help it, Wrona. Sometimes the Latin is just the perfect response. :D

Merion_Mom, I can help you here! I stayed in the equivalent of Enchantment cabin 8672 on Grandeur (which is/was identical to Enchantment prior to the stretch, but the aft cabins are still identical). Anyway, on Grandeur it was cabin 8588 and it is the same as the cabin right next to it which on Enchantment is 8670. It was wonderful!!! The balcony is HUGE!!!! About 3 times the size of a side junior suite balcony!!! The cabin is also huge but not as wide as a side junior suite. You don't have a true walk-in closet but it is a very large closet just the same. Here is a link to my photos of 8588 on Grandeur, which is exactly the same as cabin as 8670 on Enchantment. The photos are scattered throughout the gallery so you will have to look through the gallery to see all the cabin/balcony photos. I would not hesitate to book this cabin again! If the balcony is important to you keep this cabin! If the wider cabin and walk-in closet are important to you, then go with the side cabin. Here's the link to my photos...

Bonnie, do you know if the overall cabin square footage is the same, just with different depth and width measurement? Or does "wider" translate to "bigger"? And are you SURE that the side JS has a walk-in closet?

The side junior suite is only a couple of feet wider than the aft junior suite. You get the few extra feet in width and a little bit larger closet. but otherwise, the aft and side junior suite are the same. Now, the balconies don't compare at all! AFT IS HUGE!!!! Side is normal. :D

Yes Merion_Mom, that is a stock photo. I just searched online for a side JS photo to post for you. I have seen a side junior suite on Grandeur in person and can tell you first hand that they seemed wider than my cabin was but I would only venture a guess and say they were about 2 feet wider. Definitely not much! I know that some of the side junior suites have the true walk-in closet but can't swear that all of them do. Our aft junior suite cabin was plenty large for the 2 of us. How many would you have sailing with you? If only 2 I'd definitely stick with the aft cabin! You will never miss the 2 extra feet! The aft cabin felt very roomy! Have you sailed in 1688 or 1388 on the Voyager-class ships? The aft junior suite on Grandeur felt the same size as that except it is a true rectangle and doesn't have the angled wall that 1388/1688 have. It does have the larger bathroom with the tub and the closet in the aft js on Grandeur was larger than a "standard" closet, but just wasn't a walk-in. I hope this helps! :D

Oh, here's another difference or two that I can give you...

The desk console thingie that houses the TV is directly across from the bed in the side JS but in the aft JS it is in the sitting area. (The TV itself is still diagonal across from the bed though for easy viewing from either area). In the aft JS there is a vanity/mirror with a little stool directly across from the bed. It was very nice. Also, the aft JS has a double sliding door centered in the middle of the room, but the side JS has a triple sliding door that goes from wall to wall which makes the room "appear" wider, but in actuality, it may not truly BE wider. With that being the case, the two cabins are more alike than different!

I stayed in 8170 (aft on opposite side of ship from 8670) for a 5-day a couple of months ago and loved it. My first time in an aft cabin and I've booked another for a 2008 Panama Canal cruise on the Brilliance. Balcony was huge (2 loungers, 2 chairs, and a table) and there is enough of an overhang to avoid sun or rain if necessary. Star gazing at night was amazing.

We will be in afts 8172, 8672 and 8670 on our upcoming cruise. I can let you know the size, etc. when we return. My dream is that they will open up at least one of the balcony dividers, although I've read that this may not be possible. Hoping that a pre-tip will work with this situation.

My wife and I stayed in a "side" JS on Enchantment a few years ago. Can't remember the exact room number. I was surprised at the amount of overhead noise that you could hear. Have been in a number JS/GS on Radiance/Voyager class ships, which are generally in the same area of the ship, and those were quiet. Anyway.....

Ooh! Ooh! Can I jump in with a question pleeeeease? :o

Does all the good information provided here also apply to the corner JS aft on the Enchantment? We are booked in 7166 in December, and although I am not considering changing this cabin... frankly there are no other JSs available at the moment), I still like to get as much info on it as possible!

Thanks!

A~

Hey Carol,

We were in both 8172 on Enchantment and 8588 on Grandeur earlier this year, both are Aft JS's. I did peek into the side JS rooms and they are wider, but the balcony on the Aft JS's are HUGE, even on the center balconies. The JS aft cabin is about the size of a D1 on a Voyager Class ship if that helps. I've got pictures of our balcony on Grandeur temporarily posted here for you...

If there are only 2 of you I'd definitely stay with the Aft JS. If there are 3 or 4 of you, I'd maybe think about it a little...

DH took some great pictures of Enchantment... they are here...

Enjoy your trip... we had a blast on ours! :)

I was in cabin 8170 which is the exact same as 8760, and next year we have that cabin. Anyway, the balcony is HUGE and wonderful which is why we booked the two JS right next to each other next year. I must say though I was disappointed in the size of the cabin, I guess after being on the mariner so many times I thought the JS on the enchantment would be the same size and I didnt look. The cabin was no bigger than the size of a regular balcony cabin.

But if you have a choice between the two cabins deifnitely take 8760, the balcony is worth it and since the ship is not as big as the voyager class ships, walking to the end of the boat isnt such a big deal. I loved it as you can see, I have it twice more next year!

Hi Parrothead - we are back from a great first (but not last) cruise. The rooms were outstanding - very close to the "stock" photo in this thread. There were 3 of us in the room (DH and DS - DD stayed next door with Gma and Gpa). There was plenty of room for clothes, etc. - in fact we didn't use all the space provided (4 checked bags and 5 carry-on's). I was very pleased. The closet also had lots of space for hanging clothes and plenty of hangers.

As for the bed - we did have an eggcrate - and I slept like a baby each night. My son and daughter never complained about the pull-out. The bathroom was larger than I thought and had two side cabinets plus a cabinet under the sink. The best, however, was the balcony! We were able to open up all three, so it was even larger. Alone, each had 3 chairs, a lounger and a square low table which held the room service breakfast tray. Walking to the aft never bothered us and I only saw one other person on our short hallway (besides us) during the entire 5 days. I don't believe we took pictures of just the room and balcony without family in it. I'll check with my dad and brother, but really, the stock picture is pretty true except the cabinet wall is arranged a bit differently.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I would stay in these rooms again in a heartbeat!

Is RCCL using old deck plans on their site for the Enchantment? We were looking at 7166 earlier today & couldn't find it on the deck plan anywhere even though the cabin showed available. The aft cabins on the RC site were numbered 7150-7650, so I am hoping it's just a web glitch. Checking other sites it showed 7166 as a corner aft. I put a courtesy hold on it, but don't want to go thru with the booking if it's NOT the corner.

I'm looking at the deck plans for Enchantment on RCCL.com right now and they do show 7166 as a corner aft... maybe whatever was causing you to see the old deck plans is fixed, or maybe the old deck plans are cached in your computer...
