Red Hook Parking - "Plan B" - Any suggestions?

With only 500 parking spaces at the pier, we're looking for secure alternatives within a reasonable taxi-ride distance. We're driving down from CT - and a car service wants $160 each way.

I've searched the web and found that Central Parking has a number of garages at the MetroTech Center (about 3 miles from the pier). They don't post rates on their website - and "customer service" at their contact phone # kept me on hold for 20 minutes. Also found "Park Right" at St. John's Place. Daily rate of $7.23 + tax looks very reasonable.

Worse case is parking at LGA. I've seen rates posted by other cruisers, and a taxi is still a better deal than Princess transfer option ($40/person - each way).

Any thoughts or comments?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know how many times this has been asked and answered. Its never been full. The one on Manhattan doesn't have that many more spaces and has as many as 10 ships leaving in a week and its never been full. There is no alternative. They claim to have a spare lot somewhere but I haven't seen it. The lots in Downtown brooklyn will not be that much cheaper. There is a lot under the building at Court and Atlantic but that costs $20.00 per day. The lot under the Brooklyn Marriott(that is Metrotech's lot) is also at least $20.00 per 24 hour day. I live in the area and I use the lots when it snows so I don't have to dig out.

What the address on St Johns Place I can't imagine that a park slope parking will be any cheaper(actually the parking there is worse)..

.

That rate doesn't look right.

Agree with smeyer, the lot doesn't fill up and I would just park there.

Any alternative parking you find is not going to be worth the hassle and transportation to and from will certainly eat up any savings you may find.
