Just Back from the Enchantment

Recommended Posts

I got back yesterday from my 5 night cruise on the Enchantment of the Seas. I have to say that for her age, the Enchantment is one heck of a ship. The stretch and refurbishment made her seem younger than she is. The staff of the ship is incredibly nice, possibly the best I've had so far.

If you come to this ship after sailing on a Voyager Class ship, like I did, know that it obviously is no where near that level. Not as much to do, public spaces aren't as spacious, etc. Not having the Royal Promenade was a definite adjustment. Regardless, sailing on the Enchantment was still a great vacation.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

My fave ship to date is the Navigator. The Royal Promenade is to die for!! I'm sailing the Enchantment at the end of August & looking forward to it. Thanks for the positive feedback.

We love the Radiance and Voyager class of ships, should we not bother ever doing Enchantment? We just did Sov and wont do her again because of size, age, etc. Just wondered if you would recommend we ever do Enchantment.

I haven't sailed the Sovereign, so I can't compare the two, but the friend that cruised with me has. He said that its pretty much set up the same, but surprisingly the Sovereign seemed to have more to do on board. For example, the Sovereign has a Sorento's and Johnny Rockets while the Enchantment has neither. He said its comparable to the Sovereign, but bigger. So it may not be a good idea if you didn't enjoy the Sovereign. The Enchantment is longer than the Radiance class though since the stretch.

I haven't cruised on a Radiance class ship yet, how does it compare to the Voyager class? And if anyone else has sailed on Enchantment or any other Vision class ship, how does it compare to the Radiance class?

BTW, one negative point about this cruise. The disembarkation in Port Everglades was horrible. Extremely crowded, no baggage belt either, so they just set all the luggage in the room, which is like a warehouse. My suitcase and garment bag were on opposite sides of my tag section. Definite work needed there. Embarkation was a little slow too, but nothing too bad. Might have just been a fluke, but otherwise some definite work is needed at this port.

I've sailed on the Sovereign class, Voyager class, Radiance class, and Vision class (but not Enchantment).

I have to say out of all of them Radiance class is my favorite. Tons of things to do just substitute the self leveling pool tables for the ice skating rink found on Voyager class, more food options than Voyager class, less people on board, tons more glass so the ship feels more open and elegant.

After that I love the amount of activities available on the Voyager class, the Royal Promenade is really awesome, but I actually didn't miss it on the Radiance class, probably due to all the glass.

I was underwhelmed by my first sailing on a Vision class. I hadn't yet been on a Radiance class and my previous 2 cruises had been on a Voyager class. Also, the cruise was not one of their normal cruises so the activities were different. I still liked the ship, but it wasn't as awe inspiring to me as the Voyager class or Radiance class. I do like the fact that the Centrum area has a lot of glass so it feels open, and that unlike the Voyager class, the Solarium is covered. I am going back to give it a second chance.

Sovereign class are a good ship, in fact it is the class that got me hooked on cruising. I've enjoyed my 2 short cruises on them, but like the Vision class they just aren't as awe-inspiring to me after having been on the Voyager class and Radiance class. The rooms are much smaller than on the other ships, which isn't as shocking if you are prepared for it, but still an adjustment. Activities wise they do offer a lot to do, as long as you aren't expecting all the bells and whistles of the larger ships.

We were on the same cruise and I can't think of one negative thing to say about it. Embarkation and Debarkation were a breeze for us! We had our first suite this cruise and there is no going back now. The ship looked in great shape and the staff was absolutely wonderful all around. Total, complete satisfaction!

I totally agree with you. I loved the Enchanment and I have been on both the Mariner and the Voyager. The Mariner is just awesome that is how we got cruise addicted. I thought going in that I might be disappointed going on the smaller ship. NO WAY I would do the Enchantment again. We on the other hand do not have to go, go go all the time and found plenty to do. Our room was a few steps from the elevator so we could get many places quickly. Dinner was our longest walk. I am looking forward to doing the Brilliance in Feb.

Nice insight on the Enchantment Joe. I really wanted to try the Enchantment this September. I have been on the stretched Norwegian Majesty and it was very difficult to notice the newer section. Decor was matched so well I couldn't tell except seeing seems on the flooring. Curious to see the Enchantment's renewal as older ships have been my favorites.

Rest of family really wanted me to book Mariner, which I did. We all agreed to go with an inside cabin in order to make up for some of the $ difference between Enchantment. I know Mariner has more to do for our children. Decor also looks great on Mariner from pictures I have seen. It just seems too enclosed to the outside. Enchantment pictures show much more natural light in many of it's public areas. Radiance class seems to interest me more also.

Oh well, I am happy when momma and the boys are happy. Glad to be trying RCI for the first time on any of their ships.

I see they are in the News again, For the second time this year the ship has experienced an outbreak of what appears to be norovirus. And now a fire.

I've read that the norovius was on the Mariner not the Enchantment. & this is the first I've heard of a fire. What ship is that?

Hi Barbara , A short circuit caused a fire on a life boat while it was being lower from the ship while in Cozumel. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries.

Thanks for the response & the picture. I'm sailing her on 8/28 & I'm sure she'll look brand new by then. Do they know what caused the fire?

Barbara - Your signature countdown for Enchantment is incorrect. I will be on the Enchantment on the 24th which does not return until the 28th. Could it be the 28th trip your on?

We have sailed every class (except Freedom). Radiance class is our favorite with Vision class being second. We had sailed Enchantment two or three times before the stretch and once after. She is a great ship and even better since the stretch. We would go again in a heartbeat!

Thanks for the line. Unbelievable picture. I'm sure they'll have the ship looking like new by 8/28.

It's a 5 night cruise to Key West, Cozumel & Coco Cay.

I know my signature is alittle misleading. I'm actually arriving in Ft Lauderdale a few days early so I'm counting that as part of my cruise!! Be sure to post about your trip. I'll be checking while I'm down in FLL.

Wow, I can't believe that fire happened. It's so odd to think that I was just on her a few days ago and had a flawless trip, and then this happens. I thought the person missing on the Voyager was a bad omen since I'm sailing her in December. Maybe I should quit while I'm ahead haha.

That fire was not on a life boat. Newspapers in all countries are just as bad as in this country it appears.

That fire was on one of the tenders. Just look at it! I hope they do a little better maintenance on their tenders from now on. That would be no fun to have it catch fire mid way to shore with all those people on it.
