Enchantment Life Boat Fire

Recommended Posts

Here is some information that I found about a life boat fire aboard the Enchanment yesterday.

Novedades (local newspaper) in Cancun reports that a short circuit caused a fire on a life boat while it was being lower from the ship while in Cozumel. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries.

It doesn't appear to be any major damage either. Looks like a little paint and maybe some new glass and things are back to normal. That is minimal compared to what they did to this boat in 30 short days. :D

First and foremost, we hope nobody was injured during this fire.

We are to cruise on the EncOS this Saturday. Anyone have a special number to Royal Caribbean that will give us information as to whether our sailing will be effected? I called a general number I have and that department had no information and their information desk had nothing as well.

I don't think this would affect your trip. I would call the customer service number and ask them about it. I would also keep calling until you get someone who actually acknowledges this, then you will know that you are talking to someone who is aware of the situation.

My luck, I would have been on this ship leaning on the rail of one of the balconies above the life boat that caught fire.

Well, I called Sunday and was told they have no information about the fire. I called again this morning and again, no information is available. They even went as far as stating they did not know anything about a fire. It may be such an "small" (which it does NOT look like to me) fire that they are not saying anything to customer service about it. Hopefully I will find out something soon.

Since you called and they said no information was available, I would assume that you should be perfectly fine for your Saturday cruise.

Remember that pictures may be worth 1,000 words, BUT they also tend to deceive. The fire, apparently, was confined to one lifeboat. Any cosmetic damage to the ship could be easily remedied.

Have a great cruise!:)

I would e-mail them the picture from this thread and say "this fire"....

After third call, I got in touch with a lady that was interested. She acknowledged the fire and said the damage has been repaired and no sailing will be affected. Exactly as expected but did not want to fly to FL and have no ship waiting.

I can just hear their response ....."You can't believe everything you see...."!

Yes, you are correct... you can't believe everything you see. Optical illusions are a clear case in point. In this instance, the darkening to the ship was simply due to smoke... easily remedied.

Just be thankful that it didn't turn out like the fire on the Star Princess. We ended up on the Radiance of the Seas because our Star Princess was cancelled last April. We thought we were fortunate to be able to still cruise.

I was on board at the Windjammer when this occurred. It was extinguished right away and the crew was very good. All that was said first was "Bravo, Bravo and Bravo and location and then Bravo, Bravo and Bravo". My DH and I looked at each other and wonder out loud if it was another drill since they had one in the morning. Then all of sudden some screamed fire. I all could see was the black smoke coming up. The crew working asked that everyone remain calm and not panic and to move to the other side of the ship. There was not a lot of people since we were docked in Cozumel. We were sent out to the pool area and the captain came on and said there had been a fire and that all was extinguished and no one was hurt. They came back and kept making announcements that all was well. They did turn off the ac for that area for a bit and then put it back on. Our cabin did smell of burnt plastic or electric wires.

Just before we left Cozumel the Captain come on the PA and told everyone that yes there was a fire and that all was fine and we had been cleared to sail back. The main damage was to the lifeboat. They stated that the fire may have started on the battery pack charger on the lifeboat.

Well it was an experience but was handled very professionally by the crew.

Paint goes a long way, don't it Yogimax? LOL

Tim

Absolutely, Tim. If you are selling a house, the most important think you can do is give it a fresh coat of paint!

Again, have a great trip!

Yeah, the "darkening" was SIMPLY due to smoke. Of course the fact that the smoke came from a fire is totally inconsequential.
