Enchantment, Matt Baker, and New Bedding?

Okay here goes:

I just spoke with a Crown and Anchor Customer Service Rep, now mind you I know how reliable some of the RCCL customer service people are with their information. But I have always received great information from the Crown and Anchor staff but.....

The gentleman I talked with said that Matt Baker was scheduled to be the CD on my upcoming August 19, 2006 Enchantment of the Seas cruise. Could this be true? All of my research on cruisecritic.com says that he is GONE.

I was also told that the new bedding was completed when the Enchantment was stretched. Also, not what I have heard here.

About the shows, "Can't Stop the Rock", didn't I already sit through that one? Two years ago? Headliner Johnny Thunder?

I think that I should call back later and play Russian Roulette with the customer service reps and see what the next one says. :D

Darlene, we sailed on the first full sailing after the stretch--our Deck 3 inside cabin on that trip had new bedding. We're booked on Enchantment for January. I hope we aren't treated to "Can't Stop The Rock," because it was on our previous Enchantment cruises and my head will explode.

As for Matt, he was the best CD we've ever had. Maybe the rep meant his brother, Simon?

I dont know how many Matt Bakers are in the world, but the CD on our Norwegian Dawn cruise in May was a Matt Baker from Wales. Maybe the one you are talking about jumped lines?.....

Oh, that sounds like him! Matt is definately Welsh. :) From what we heard here, he left RCL to go to Hollywood. Sounds like that may not have worked out...

He was a great CD, out of 16 cruises, probably one of the most entertaining i have had the pleasure of sailing with. Had quite a singing voice as well. Loved to do Austing Powers imitations also........Wici-wici-wa, heard that a bazillion times a day as well......LOL

My last Enchantment cruise, June 2004, Matt Baker was the CD. I think that his presence absolutely made the cruise! I believe the last that anyone posted here was that he was off with NCL. That is why after hearing this from the Crown and Anchor guy I am having a hard time believing any of the information that he gave me. I'm going to look for someone who has cruised on the Enchantment in the last month and just ask about their CD. I'll update this thread as soon as I know.

Just contacted Crown and Anchor again, this time I was told that they do not have any information about the cruise directors. Sounded like they might be afraid to make a statement that wasn't 100% positive, since "the cruise directors change ships and take vacations, etc, from time to time". In the meantime I've posted on the RCCL board to find out who the latest CD was. Unfortunately, I believe even more now that it won't be Matt Baker. Sorry to start something if this isn't true, and that is what it appears to be.

I will be on the Enchantment Aug 28, so please report back about the CD, and let us know what you think! Also, if you can, ask the CD if they are the one for the Aug 28 sailing? Please! Thanks!!

Yep, Can't Stop the Rock is still playing. I understand they keep the same production show for years just changing out the RCCL singers and dancers. The other production on the 5 nighter was Stage to Screen.

Johnny Thunder of the Drifters gets on board the day of my cruise. He was also on my last cruise aboard the Majesty. He is entertaining. He encourages a lot of audience involvement. You can go to his website - the name is obvious. There will be a list of what cruises he will be on.

He is a nice man, too.

And from what I've previously read about bedding on enchantment - the bedding is still the old thin cot style. The only part that got new bedding was the new part of the ship. New bedding - old style.

Just off the Enchantment 2 weeks ago..The CD was Carly Boileau.we found her very funny and entertaining. Don't know how long she'll be on..We had the Can't stop the Rock show..but No Johnny Thunder...We had 3 Comedian /Magician type shows and 2 RCI Entertainers shows.. Can't Stop the Rock and Broadway to Screen (or something like that) We enjoyed them..it was our first time seeing those particular ones.

The bedding in our rooms was fine..we were in new rooms added during the stretch.

Just some info that might be helpful...

Carly Boileau is the main cruise director on the enchantment (as of writing this post) but is on vacation early Aug for what i believe will be 8 weeks... i'm 99.9% sure it isn't mat covering.... Believe its Paul (not sure of last name)

Can't stop the rock and Stage to screen are still the current shows on the enchantment but due a cast change soon but not sure on exact dates.

Hope it helps.

Matt is the CD on the Norwegian Dawn right now. We had him as our CD in May and our daughter cruised with him again in July. She spoke with him in July to ask about his sick nephew he told us about in May. He mentioned he was going on vacation shortly and he vacations as a CD on RCCL ships.

Well, I guess we'll find something new to do instead of the dinner shows, because we've seen those productions twice. Hope they have a good comedian, though...

that is an adaquate statement, having come off enchantment July 31, we did not have new bedding.. 3" foam pads on a cot like frame.. asked for egg crates that were supposedly arranged pre cruise validated with email confirmation from special_needs@rccl,com but when we boarded there were none to be had according to the room steward.
