got your attention, didn't I?:D

about to take my first HAL cruise and from reading these boards it seems that everyone travels in balconies, suites, and penthouses. So it occurred to me that if all of you sent me just $1.00 i could join you!;) Seriously, im booked on Noordam 12/6/06 in a lowly cat MM gty. and praying for a visit from the fairy, does anyone have any pictures of the lower category inside cabins on the Vista ships just in case thats what i end up in? (and i'll be fine with it if i do)

I think I would like the dark offered from an inside. HAL's cabins are actually larger than most other ships, so you should have a fair amount of room. Do you go on vacation to spend your time in your room? If not, then I think you've got a great cabin :)

I'm glad someone else said they prefer inside cabins. People think I'm nuts. :) I sometimes get migranes and an inside cabin is wonderful for quickly getting rid of them. I just take some medicine and then lay down ... before I know it, bye bye migrane.

I just can't see spending all the money for a large suite (especially since I normally travel solo anyway), when I'm rarely in the stateroom unless to sleep, get changed, etc. I'd rather take all that saved money and spend it on some awesome shore excursions instead.

Blue skies ...

Hello All:

Just got off the Oosterdam Alaska Cruise last week and had an inside Cabin. WOuld prefer outside, balcaonies, suties etc., but I cant afford them and do all my other vacations.

Inside was fine. Brought my Alarm CLock which helped the most.

 I get frequent migranes too (3ish times a week at least). I've had them since I was 10 :( Anyways, I know how you feel! They are so horrible!

My Dad can't sleep with ANY light in the room, so my Parents always book an inside.

We saw a few of the inside cabins across the hall from us because we were next to a large group who had all their kids stashed on the insides.... (this was on the Noordam) and the cabins looked really small.

These were cabins 5005, 5011 and 5017 in category L.

One of them (I think it was 5011) had one of the twin size beds going sideways in the cabin, so both beds were placed in somewhat of an L-shape.

The kids were small kids - about ages 3 or 4 to ages 8 or 9 and they had a nanny who frequently sat with one of the cabin doors open so she could hear the kids in the other cabins (all doors open) we were able to see quite a bit. They are very small cabins.

They are very small cabins.

We had an NN on the Zuiderdam, guarantee and NO upgrade due to all the hurricane activity that year (2004). It was, indeed, VERY small. It was as nice in every way as our recent outside (D-category) cabin on the Zaandam with one major exception--the closet space is TERRIBLE--and one small exception--no sofa, just a small chair. Here are a couple of pictures, I hope! This is taken standing against the bathroom wall. I'll make another post with a second picture.

The outside door is at the foot of the bed, between the bed and the bathroom. To the left in this photo, just past that table. This is from the head of the bed. There is barely room enough to turn around in these cabins, but they go to all the same places the Penthouse goes, and you see all the same shows and eat the same food in the dining room! :D If you can bear tight quarters, then go for an inside. We usually do! (Just beware the closets are TINY!)

Robin -

Thanks for the photos! I agree with you the closet and drawer space (and we had a VC!) I thought the drawer space to be pretty non-existent, all we had were the nightstand drawers. I filled the closets to capacity too, and we barely had room for all our luggage under the bed.

We are going back to the Deluxe Verandah Suite for the next cruise, I miss all the closet space and the dressing area - we can accomodate all four of us quite easily in the SA category, making it more cost effective.

The lack of drawers! The little fridge, while nice for bringing my own sodas, took up all the 'drawer' space in the desk. That annoyed me. I had to have my makeup on the desk or in my bag the entire time.

We were in an 'NN' on the Zuiderdam, only two of them on the ship! It was right in the bow. We were in an aft 'L' (an 'upgrade' from an M-guarantee) on the Oosterdam. There was no appreciable difference in size at all.

Even though they were both teeny, tiny, we'd book them again, but we don't actually care for the Vistas all that much. Having just got off the Zaandam and having done the Veendam in 2001, we'd like to stick to the smaller ships. We're looking at a Northern European cruise on the Veendam next summer since she seems to be the only one doing a 10-dayer that I can find.

We booked inside cabin on our upcoming cruise. The outside were full except for main deck and didn't want main deck at all. Ours is a triple. Two lower and one sofa on Upper Verandah deck. Hope the three of us aren't too tight of a squeeze, but then again we did a large outside on Majesty and that was an extremely tight fit.

It will be an adventure. I just hope oneday to get a verandah!

Hi, I'm going on the Noordam soon in a GTY inside(CAt MM). Does anyone know if all the staterooms have a fridge? I'm so used to just getting ice all the time (I learn where it is and get it myself) to keep some beers and drinks cold.

A little fridge would be a fortuitous luxury.

Yes, all the staterooms on all the Vista-class ships have a fridge.

On the S- and R-class ships only the PH, suites, and mini-suites have them. Every other cabin can request one for a fee.

I don't know how it works on the Prinsendam.

Thanks RuthC, I'm a Vista virgin. I guess the pessimist in me would say we gain a fridge, but lose the self service laundry. Hmmmm, cold beer or clean clothes. Well that's a no brainer.....:)

For CCCM...

I'll be praying that you are visited by the Upgrade Fairy and that you'll get a balcony cabin on the WESTERDAM. We sailed on the MAJESTY too...in an "F" Outside Cabin. It was a great deal smaller than the mid-grade balcony cabins we've previously enjoyed, but we made it work. I just kept telling myself that it was like staying in a small camping trailer...only this camper floated!

Albertiger - Revneal has pix on his website of the cabins. I believe his favorite is the inside J-category. Look up any of his posts for a link to his website (I'd put the link in here but am techno-unsavvy :o ).

Kryos & Aloha - I'm a member of that club too :( . It's not going to make me book an inside cabin, tho. Hope you both have found ways (both medical & non) that help you.

ue4ea - You getting your own ice reminded me of a little funny. On Noordam I wound up asking whichever steward I found in the hallway, not our own cabin boy, Boy, where the ice machine was. It took me 2 whole days to realize that Boy was re-filling our ice bucket TWICE A DAY. Blonde moment. :)

So do you think a cruise could qualify as a medical expense then???? Maybe you could take the cost out of your cafeteria plan???? Wouldn't THAT be some compensation for having to suffer those darn things? (My mom and sister both have them. They can be so debilitating. I'm sorry you have them, too.)
