Wine - what is the alleged new limit?

If you are flying, you will not be able to take wine in your carryon bag. No liquids allowed.

As far as limits, there seems to be some confusion. Some people are getting cruise answer books that don't list a limit, some are getting books that list a one bottle per person limit. I'm sure if you called Princess, you would get a different answer every time. Not helpful, I know.

I am sailing on the 26th and my tickets specify wine may be brought on board and no limit is mentioned. The tickets also specify a $10 corkage fee per bottle.

Trucking Aye!!Your interpretation of this easily confused situation makes a lot of sense.

I just got off the Crown and had SEVERAL bottles of wine and champagne with me for two celebrations and various dinners. I checked half with my luggage and carried on half. I had no trouble with the wine whatsoever. (actually one bottle broke which was due to my packing rather than anything else.) I was challenged because of several 24 ounce cans of Arizona Ginseng tea I took with me. The security guy thought it was beer when he saw it on the x-ray machine. When that was clarified, we breezed through. Nothing was said about the 3 bottles of wine I carried.

I also met people who bought champagne in St Thomas and brought it on with no problems

The corkage fee was $15.00 rather than $10.00 though. We paid it gladly because most of the wine I took was not on the ship's list. The ship's wine list is extensive with several very good reasonably priced wines on it however.

My wife and I are planning on bringing 3 bottles of wine with us for our cruise. Will this be an issue? I am just going to put them in my carryon bag.

You'll be fine.

And thanks, Philly Fillie, for confirming the $15 corkage being charged on the new Crown Princess.

We just got off of Sapphire. I packed a case of wine in the checked luggage in a wine shipping box with the styrofoam inserts. No breakage, in fact I have ordered dozens of cases of wine throught the mail and I have never had a broken bottle. We had no problem taking it on board, no questions asked. However, we did have to pay the $15 corkage for each bottle we opened in the dining room. I experimented a bit. We had a special bottle for our anniversary, 1993 E&E Black Pepper Shiraz, I offered the Head Waiter a taste to see if I got better (no corkage) service later in the cruise, but it was to no avail. Oh well! Three tips:

1. Ask for the "better" wine glasses they have larger bowls and much thinner glass.

2. If you only drink a glass of wine with dinner, open it in your room and bring a glass to the dining room, save the corkage charge!

3. They have the Concha Y Tora Don Melchior Cabernet Sauvignon on their list. This is a perenial winner scoring in the 90s on Wine Spectator the last 4 vintages. The going market price is around $45 and it is on the Princess list for $55

Cheers

Great advice. Thanks for the tip!
