Kitchen Tour on NCL Wind? Is it possible?

Hi,

My soon to be wife & I will be on the 10/18 Wind cruise. It’s my first and I was curious about a kitchen tour.

We are staying in an owner's suite and 'can' ask the concierge if it’s available. But we were curious if anyone on the Wind or other NCL ships have taken a kitchen tour? If so, & it wasn’t on the ship schedule, could you please tell us how you did it? Was it worth it?

Thanks so much

Jim

Haven't heard of the ships doing any kitchen tours in years (since 9/11 maybe?). I know with NCL they're into the video tours...on our last trip we saw the engine room which DH has wanted to see for years that way but it's always been off limits.

If you've seen any commercial kitchen at all just imagine one that's a lot bigger but has all the same equipment....it's probably a heck of a lot cleaner though. Did a tour about 7 maybe 8 years ago on a couple of different ships and the kitchens were beautifully clean...wish some land based restaurants would keep their's that well.

Years ago, kitchen tours were provided to anyone who showed up. I remember eating my way through quite a few on HAL. Both security and sanitation issues probably prevent this from being offered as a general shipboard event. However, on our Constellation cruise in March, 2006, a small group of us were given a very informative and lengthy tour of the kitchen. This was a perk for elite level cruisers and we had to RSVP so they could plan escorts, etc. Nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to see the maitre d' or concierge and request a tour.

On our STAR cruise in 2005 we met the Food and Beverage manager at our CC gathering and when I mentioned our 16 year old daughter was in a culinary program at her Tech. high school he offered and gave us (my daughter and I) a tour the next morning of one of the kitchen areas on the ship......and what amazed me most was the storage areas for all that food.:D
