Triples on the Spirit/Drive to Fairbanks

I am looking at a Sprit northbound Cruise next summer. A couple of questions:

1) Does the Spirit have triple rooms? It will likely be me, my sister and my mom.

2) How long is the drive from Anchorage/Whittier to Fairbanks? Mapquest says it's 6 hours, but just wanted to know if anyone has any experience. Thanks!

I am sure Carnival has triples available. Go to Expedia and go through the motions of booking a cruise for next summer to see what's available.

I hope you aren't planning on going from Whittier to Fairbanks in one day! Whittier is a little over an hour from Anchorage. The drive from Anchorage to Denali National Park is ~ 5 hours without stops. (That's what I was told by friends who did it - although I haven't done it myself, yet.) Fairbanks is ~ 2 hours from Denali. I will be doing the drive from Anchorage to Denali to Fairbanks next June, but over the course of several days. We'll probably take the train or a shuttle from Whittier to Anchorage, depending on our immediate post-cruise plans.

Thanks for the quick reply. I really had no idea how long it would take, but I figured it was longer than that. I have a wedding in Fairbanks on the 7th. The cruise ends in Whittier on the 4th. I suppose then it might be a good idea to take the train to Anchorage, then rent a car to drive to Fairbanks? We have a couple of days to make the drive, so I am not to worried about time.

Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

I would try to spend at least one night at Denali National Park - since you'll be driving right by it. You could spend the 4th in Anchorage or Talkeetna, drive to Denali on the 5th and spend the night, go on a shuttle bus tour of Denali on the 6th, then drive to Fairbanks that night.

I make the drive in around 5 1/2 hours from Anchorage to Fairbanks with a couple of potty stops, but that is doing 65-75mph the whole way with no sightseeing. This is also dependent on getting out of Anchorage without encountering the rush-hour traffic between Anchorage and Wasilla, which can be terrible, and no long construction delays.

It takes me 5 hours, 40 minutes to drive from Anchorage to Fairbanks with one quickie stop in Wasilla to top off my gas tank and the cursory 5 minute stop in Cantwell for a bathroom break. No sightseeing on my trips... I haul butt...

And I think the best bet is to take the train/shuttle from Whittier into ANC and rent a car at the airport.

After we take the train or shuttle from Whittier to Anchorage, we'll rent from the downtown Hertz location. You'll save $ in taxes by not picking up at the airport. As it is, you'll have a BIG rental car bill because you'll drop-off the car in Fairbanks.

I suggest allowing 6 hours to get to Denali Park. :) And another 2 to Fairbanks. I like leaving the time for ad lib stops and enjoying the many distractions available for visitors. :)

From Whittier to Anchorage- you may be eating up a LOT of time, depending on your transfer. Your shortest option would be a one way car rental picked up in Whittier. You could be on your way by the 9am tunnel.
