SanDiegoSue Posted August 20, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2006 Has anyone gone on the Godwin Glacier & Dog Sledding tour out of Seward? We are considering this, instead of the trips offered in Skagway and Juneau. Thanks Sue
SanDiegoSue Posted August 20, 2006 Author #2 Share Posted August 20, 2006 I just did a search and realized that several people have already commented on Godwin tours. It was helpful. But, now I have another question. One poster said it was only a 10 min. to and from helicopter ride to the camp...no extended glacier viewing. I believe the tours in Skagway and Juneau offer a little more time in the air. Is this true? Thanks Sue
kimiata Posted August 22, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Hi Sue, we are in Seward right now and did the Godwin tour yesterday. It was incredible and I think it was worth every penny. The helicopter ride is not that long, maybe 10-15 minutes, but it was exciting! We feel very lucky that we got to do this, since it turned out yesterday was their last day of the season. Plus the weather was perfect. Good luck whatever you decide! Kim
SanDiegoSue Posted August 22, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted August 22, 2006 Thanks Kim. What made you decide on Godwin rather than one in either Juneau or Skagway? Sue
kimiata Posted August 23, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 23, 2006 Hi Sue, We knew we'd be cutting it close at the end of the season, and were going to be in Seward first, so that's part of it. We do have the Mendenhall glacier helicopter trip scheduled in Juneau as well. Several friends told us it was not to be missed, and I think I was concerned that if we did dog sledding there, it might cut into the glacier viewing time. In Skagway we are going to rent a car and drive to Emerald Lake. Kim
GlacierLady Posted August 23, 2006 #6 Share Posted August 23, 2006 They do a great job...been on it myself. Rumor has it they will be flying to the Harding Ice field next year. That would make for a longer, higher flight. It might also be a plane with skis...I would inquire next spring. You did have perfect weather yesterday Kim, I was out fishing enjoying it myself. Our boat got our limit of halibut..woohoo! :)
