First night dinner wear?

HMK

Recommended Posts

We are going on the Glory next week, and we have an early dinner seating. What are the odds that we don't get our luggage in time to change for dinner? Are we allowed to go to the dining room on the first night without dressing up? Or will we be turned away?

20 of us in our group all want to know.....

I made sure to wear capris with sandals the first day and my dh wore a polo shirt with nice shorts so we weren't dressed sloppy just in case, but our luggage arrived by 4 pm. Most people have their luggage by their dinner seating. It's really rare to read on here that someone didn't.

We were on the Glory 7/22-7/29. An announcement was made that dinner wear would be casual in case some hadn't gotten their luggage. I was wearing capris and my husband wore long pants on the plane just in case our luggage didn't come. However, it did arrive before supper!

Just got off of the Glory two weekends ago. I was worried about our luggage because we were literally the first in line to register, so our luggage was on the "bottom of the heap".

But, it made it to our cabin in plenty of time before dinner. I had time to unpack, steam out some wrinkles, and shower and dress for dinner.

Just in case, though, because in the past we have not gotten it before dinner, we bring a small carryon. In that I have my toiletries and any meds we need and a clean change of clothes for dinner.

Even though you would be fine in whatever you have on that first night, it still feels wonderful to get a shower and clean clothes on. Btw, the shower does have shampoo and bath gel in it. There's also toothpaste samples (but no brushes) in the cabin, so if you brought nothing on with you, you could at least smell good ;) .

Enjoy your cruise,

Shay

p.s. and remember, the hair dryers in the cabins are lousy. Pack your own.

I would wear something nice and versatile the first day. I usually wear either a nice sundress, or capris the first day, just in case. On our last cruise we did run into some problems as we did not get our luggage in time. It was a good thing that we packed some things in our carry-on to fresshen up with before dinner.

My advise is to wear a nice outfit and pack some of your toiletries so that you can freshen up before dinner, just in case. You never know... and the day that you say it won't happen to you, it will!

That is an interesting comment, osiebosie. Because, we have checked in later than usual a couple of times and our luggage actually has gotten to our cabin sooner.

We have never gotten our luggage later than 4 pm, but I know it can happen. My Aunt, who was right down the hall from us and checked in along with us, did not get her bags until about 8pm the first night, we had early seating. She felt so horrible about not being able to change, so none of us did, either. I think she was scared she wouldn't have her luggage on the cruise, too, no matter how much we tried to reassure her.

Cross pack with a travel mate, if you can. Carry aboard one casual outfit if you are flying to port and boarding the same day. Since we won't be able to (as of now!) carry our toiletries and such onboard, we'll have a bit of extra space in our carry ons for that purpose.

I changed into a sundress for dinner. I had my luggage by the time the ship sailed, but had fresh clothes packed into a carry on just in case.

I packed my carry-on for the flight and then repacked it once we got to our motel with fresh clothes for the first night, a swimsuit, my make-up and stuff like that.
