Lou33 Posted August 22, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2006 People have been getting deals on both of these on Priceline lately. And they are both about the same price. If they are available for your date, you may get either for about $60. If you could have either for the same price, which would you choose? The Grande is rated a 3* and the Renaissance is a 4*. Does the Renaissance really deserve a higher rating? If I bid 4*, then there is no chance that I would get the Grande, it could only be the Renaissance. We currently have a backup reservation at Amerisuites. $75/night for November 9 and 10. But I'd like to get something better for about the same price. Are both of these hotels a big step up from Amerisuites?
joanne1 Posted August 22, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2006 You have absolutely nothing to loose!! I would bid on the Renaissance first and then if you don't get it try the Grande. You may need to be a little patient but I would keep trying. You already have a hotel booked so you are safe and will have some place to stay but my opinion . . . anything is better than the Amerisuites - just found it very dirty (but that was 2 years ago). katmash Posted August 23, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2006 I've stayed at both (Grande when it was Marriott) through Priceline. I've read here recently that the Grande had damage from Hurricane Wilma and the restaurant wasn't up and running. What I like best about the Grande is it's close proximity to the water taxi and my husband loves to walk around looking at all the boats and yachts at the marina. Prior to hurricane damage and name change, I preferred Marriott Marina (Grande) over the Renaissance. I'd stay at either place with a good Priceline rate in a heart beat. I recently won the Renaissance on priceline for 10/14 and 10/22 for $64 and $62. I bid on a 3* Downtown hoping for the Grande (before I read about the Hurricane damage) and was upgraded to the 4* Renaissance. The Renaissance has very comfortable beds and is a very nice hotel. The food's a little pricey but there are other restaurants in the area. We've enjoyed room service meals and breakfast buffet at Renaissance. I cancelled my $79 Amerisuites rooms through Value Trips when I won the Priceline bid. I've never stayed at Amerisuites but I would for the price for one night if I couldn't get a better room for the same price or better on Priceline. Hope this helps.
