MeanMachine Posted August 23, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2006 I know this is going to get moved, but the United States Port thread has tumbleweeds blowing through it.... Anyone driven from North Metro Atlanta to Port Canaveral through Orlando? I was wondering how long it took them since MapQuest is usually off a bit. Thanks! Anyone driven from North Metro Atlanta to Port Canaveral through Orlando? I was wondering how long it took them since MapQuest is usually off a bit. Thanks! Wow, we are practically neighbors. I asked the woman in the office next to me since she drives to Port Canaveral a few times a year. She said it takes anywhere from 7-9 hours depending on traffic and how fast you drive. She also mentioned that you can take I-10 east rather than staying on I-75 all the way into Orlando. Once you reach Jacksonville, take I-95 all the way to Port Canaveral. It is usually a little faster that way and you avoid the toll road. Hope that helps.
CarribbeanTina271 Posted August 23, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2006 I have drove from Rockmart to Port Canaveral in 8 hrs but I don't go thru Orlando, we always go I75 to I10 then I95, just seems easier to me and no toll roads Tina

Just adjust the mileage to your driving, how fast you drive, how often you need to stop - nobody's time will be the same as yours.

That's weird how we posted almost the exact same advice at the same time. We must be right.

shandabyb Posted August 23, 2006 #9 Share Posted August 23, 2006 Took us 8 hours in Feb from the north side of Atlanta, would have been less but a huge wreck down near Valdosta. Shanda
Rare EngIceDave Posted August 23, 2006 #10 Share Posted August 23, 2006 I live in Palm Beach, 2-2.5 hrs south of Canaveral. I can get to midtown ATL in 9 hrs, did it a few weeks ago (depending on traffic, of course) You should be able to do it in 7+/- easy and yeas, I-75S to I-10E to I-95S is best. Going through Orlando is crazy
MeanMachine Posted August 23, 2006 Author #11 Share Posted August 23, 2006 Scares me a bit because it shows the route through Jacksonville as being a shorter distance but taking longer... But if everyone agrees that is the best route I will give it a shot. Thanks!

Rare EngIceDave Posted August 23, 2006 #13 Share Posted August 23, 2006 Mileage-wise, I can see going through Orlando as being less. The difference is that from Orlando to Canveral is Hwy 528, and it is not a "highway" like say I-75 and can be slow at times. Nevertheless, my GPS mapping software (Mapsource for Garmin) says that from I-75S & the I-20 interchange, it is 503mi and capable in 7:04 going as mentioned prior
geosgirl Posted August 23, 2006 #14 Share Posted August 23, 2006 Just my 2 cents - but I have had an occasion where mapquest was way off, or maybe not completely up to date...I use randmcnally.com now and haven't had any problems (yet anyway:D )
