SimplyAddicted Posted August 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2006 Just wanted to see if anyone knows if pregnancy is a pre-existing condition for cruise insurance, on the off chance there is a complication. and medical attn is required. Thanks!
cb at sea Posted August 24, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2006 I would imagine that it would depend on the insurance carrier!
MGoBlue2 Posted August 24, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2006 Not if you get it on the ship.
Fran Harp Posted August 24, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2006 I would imagine that it would depend on the insurance carrier! Every insurance carrier uses "pre-existing condition" at the drop of a hat if they can avoid paying. I'd check it out really carefully. vickiw0318 Posted August 24, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 24, 2006 I work in the health insurance (but not travel insurance) business. A pregancy that exists on the date of an insurance application is considered a pre-existing condition in our industry.

What if you are pregnant but don't know? Just courious?
wrp96 Posted August 24, 2006 #7 Share Posted August 24, 2006 I would check carefully each policy that you are looking at. I know there are several travel insurance policies that will not cover pregnancy at all.
cruiseco Posted August 24, 2006 #8 Share Posted August 24, 2006 The term "pre-existing" applies to illnesses and injuries. The travel insurers do not consider pregnancy to be an illness -- it's something you voluntarily chose to have happen -- and thus can't be pre-existing. You would only be able to cancel your trip if some unforseeable complication of the pregnancy is deemed by your doctor to be serious enough that you can't travel. But the other normal, foreseeable effects of pregnancy would not be enough to be covered. Throwing up every morning? Too bad.
