prescription medications question

There are a number of threads that discuss this already so you might want to scroll down and check other threads, but with the recent problems with flying and terrorism, the TSA now says that all prescriptions be in their original containers and the name on the bottle must exactly match the name on your ID. You are limited to only four ounces of liquid medication in your carry ons.

I am sorry I should have been more clear. We are driving to the port. No flight. I meant on board the cruise ship, sorry :o

Although leaving your house with prescription drugs out of their original bottle is “illegal”, there should be no problem traveling to and getting on the ship.

However, coming back into the country will be a problem should customs find anything.

My suggestion is keep your pills in the bottles until you get to the ship, and then sort them out among your pill organizer. No matter what make sure to bring a few extra days of pills just in case anything happens (you lose one, ship has to stay out at sea longer, etc).

you might have a problem with customs on the return if you have any unused meds that are not in their original bottles-- suggest you carry the meds in the bottles --sort them out on the ship into your organizer and return all unused meds back to the bottles in case you are checked by customs -------------you do carry extra meds with you in case of unforseen circumstances that forces you to spend more time away dont you

I'd be nervous to not have them in their original containers with your name on them, just in case. I did have several prescription meds with me on my first cruise, and flight from NY- San Juan & back & nobody checked anything. I also had some liquid/gel in my pocketbook (anti-itch spray & lip gel) that was not even questioned - scary.

Our bags weren't checked at all at any port except x-ray machine.

If you do put them into an organizer, put the organizer into a Zip-Loc bag and close the bag. Cruise ships, especially cruise ship bathrooms are very humid. Humidity can ruin your meds or affect the way they work.

I found this out myself when one of my meds went very, very bad (smelled like dill pickles). I don't use an organizer but keep my meds in the original containers and put the whole lot into Zip-Loc bags.

You can also toss in a couple pieces of dried pasta to take the humidity out.
