tickles Posted August 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2006 What sort of things have you left behind for your room attendant or other staff person? Did you ever bring something you just did not want to take home with you???:o
Fiestacruiser Posted August 25, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2006 All the christmas decorations for the room, to include a blow up 4 foot tree!
Cotton Posted August 25, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2006 I've left an extra bottle of wine I didn't open, but I wouldn't have left part of a bottle. I don't leave any junk behind that I don't want. Just something else for him to have to discard.

trailercruiser Posted August 26, 2006 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2006 We returned from the dining room one night and the steward was there and admired our jeans. Well as we got talking jeans are a high dollar item in his country and he happened to be my size, so I left him a pair of CLEAN jeans. Whats also funny is he said how well they looked on us and that they were appropriate for the dining room.:)
suzy1212 Posted August 26, 2006 #10 Share Posted August 26, 2006 We left 2 or 3 bottles of liquor. (rum and/or vodka) I sold a house last year and the owners left most of their furniture and a garage/gameroom full of booze. I ended up having to do a bunch of work over there, so we traded some of the furniture and booze for pay. I still have a bunch of it left. We aren't big drinkers. (At least not at home.) :D

Whats also funny is he said how well they looked on us and that they were appropriate for the dining room.:) Yes, I always believe the steward in relation to dining room dress code. Anyway, are you sure he wasn't hitting on you? Seriously, I assume you are both males since you gave him the jeans, and it's a bit odd for him to comment how they look on you while he was in your room. I've only been to 4 continents and 10 or 12 countries, but I don't think I'm having a cultural misunderstanding here. I think he made a pass at your and you left him your pants... :D To the OP, I've never left any gifts for a room steward other than a very tidy room (and extra cash ;))

airmanship Posted August 26, 2006 #15 Share Posted August 26, 2006 I leave my left over Liquor and tell my room steward to do with it what he wants (Gin, Tonic, wine , Beer, etc ). I always leave an extra tip of cash and a phone card too. One thing that I always leave is a great review of their service on the comment card!! It goes to CORP. and they are notified of nice letters!!

Rare EngIceDave Posted August 26, 2006 #20 Share Posted August 26, 2006 I leave only a tip. As for some of you leaving alcohol, I cannot believe anyone but the most desperate would drink booze from an open bottle from strangers. and yes, you are strangers....not "friends" or "buddies," they don't know any more about you than you know of them. Leave a sealed bottle or unopened beer, but don't delude yourself into thinking that the half drank bottle of gin you left behind is some great act of benevolence. I am sure it is tossed away. I wouldn't be surprised if Carnival and/or some other health regs required them to dispose of your discarded unsealed booze

Mysticks1 Posted August 26, 2006 #22 Share Posted August 26, 2006 The only think I left other than an extra tip and a note of thanks was cans of soda and bottles of water that we didn't use and didn't want to lug home. I left a note that he could use them himself or give to others if he wanted, and if not to please dispose of them for me.
suzy1212 Posted August 26, 2006 #23 Share Posted August 26, 2006 As for some of you leaving alcohol, I cannot believe anyone but the most desperate would drink booze from an open bottle from strangers. The bottles I left were unopened and sealed. I gave the opened bottles to the kids traveling in our group a couple of nights before the end of the cruise, when I realized we weren't going to drink it. 98Charlie Posted August 26, 2006 #24 Share Posted August 26, 2006 We always leave an envelope with extra cash (except on one cruise but that's a story on it's own). DH & I travel always travel with a new, unopened bottle of fabric and room freshener and tell our steward we are leaving what ever is left for him or any other crew member who wants or needs it. I pack paperback novels I can leave behind and normally search out crew members who want to read them after I am finished or drop them off at the ship's library for the next pax to read. Never left any opened bottles of booze behind :D but have left an uncorked bottle of wine behind that our steward seemed to really appreciate when we told him it was his to enjoy with his friends.
