mowrider Posted August 26, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2006 One of my customers is a "bar pilot" here in Mobile. He says that we're going to get a replacement for the Holiday or another Carnival ship in the near future. Mobile is closer to the eastern caribbean cruises than NOLA or Galsveston, and the Holiday has been booked to 110% for many, many cruises. The "turn around" basin is also big enough for a larger ship to use. Maybe a Fantasy Class ship would be just right. Any thoughts from others ? sw6416 Posted August 26, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 26, 2006 I have heard rumors of this as well I also heard that RCCL was in Mobile measuring that they might possibly be thinking of home porting out of Mobile on a trial basis. I live in Alabama also any more ships or newer ones would be great to hear.

Mobile is a nice little profit center and a nice port to explore. If you're listening, Carnival....Get started !
Mysticks1 Posted August 26, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2006 Fingers & Toes Crossed here ! I would love to have a bigger ship here and have also heard rumors from PVP. I would like to cruise from home but have not been able to make myself book the Holiday. I really compared it with the Fantasy for our Thanksgiving cruise and just couldn't go with the smaller ship. I went to the riverside park when it was docked and looked it over up close. After being on the Conquest it looked so small. My PVP told me he had heard rumors that the ship sailing the Med. cruises(forgot which one now) was possibly going to New Orleans or Mobile. My thinking would be the bigger ship to New Orleans and the Fantasy transferred to Mobile. Who knows what will happen.

2Ports Posted August 26, 2006 #8 Share Posted August 26, 2006 On our Holiday trip last March, at one of the talks, the CD said that CCL WAS sending another, larger ship to Mobile, in addition to the Holiday. Hey, leave a few for OUR new terminal, huh?:D
Mysticks1 Posted August 26, 2006 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2006 Hey, leave a few for OUR new terminal, huh?:D Is that a new terminal in the Gulfport area?? If so I didn't hear about that one, please give the details. It would make sense to add another ship to Mobile. The Mayor stated they were going ahead with expansion of the terminal and parking garage. The location is perfect since the terminal is within sight of I-10. A good selection of hotels downtown and lots of nightlife with a street similiar to Bourbon St. with lots of bars, restaurants, entertainment, etc.

Mysticks1 Posted August 26, 2006 #12 Share Posted August 26, 2006 Try the link(s) in this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=279991 Thanks for the link - The website inside was quite interesting. I hope that everything works with that idea. With the casinos rebuilding with plenty of hotel space it would be a great port.

leeleent Posted August 26, 2006 #16 Share Posted August 26, 2006 after watching the local news in mobile, and listening to the mayor of mobile, he talked like there was a posibility of another cruise line coming to mobile to join the holiday. he also said, they may try a trial cruise in 3 months. there is a couple of cruise lines interested in this, but he wouldn't say which ones at this time. they sould be talking more with them and soon make a decision of which one they would like to try. this was a couple of weeks ago i listened to this on the news, so who knows if anything has changed since then
bethaniesmom Posted August 27, 2006 #17 Share Posted August 27, 2006 since mobile is four hours from my front door, i would be thrilled if they would add a ship larger than the Holiday! But, I'll take a trip from New Orleans if I have to....so they can add new ships at either place and it would make me happy! Now my husband would vote for that Gulfport idea because he could hit the casino on the way! Will keep watching for more news....packing for our next weekend cruise today!
