QuickieGlenn Posted August 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2006 I really like the southern Carrib. cruise in Feb 08 for me & the wife but I have some concerns. Leaving in Febuary (NY Winter) Booking now (alot can happen in in 16 months) $800 deposit and locking in the inflated prices I see I need a Handicapped Room and there limited number Looking for you opinion Thanks Glenn
shoreguy Posted August 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 27, 2006 My view may not be objective since I have already booked the 10 day in Feb. 2008. I have cruised out of NYC every Feb since the Dawn arrived. Will again in 2007. Always one of the 10/11 day cruises. A perfect time to break up the winter and perhaps 36 hours until warm weather. Even last year with a 20" plus snowfall that day everyone in our roll call made the ship. Had I been flying it would have been a sad story. Details from these cruises are in the links in my signature section. Including pictures from an AE HC cabin from the Gem's sister ship the Jewel. My advice book the cabin you need now. Check pricing every week or two if the price drops call and it will be adjusted. You are protected from increases. With only one ship in NYC and only 4 10/11 day cruises in the winter of 2008 the ship could sell out early and prices may in fact rise. I know they just reduced the rates to more rational levels for the penthouse cabins this week. Friends just got a $500 reduction on an AD. The two aft facing AF HC cabins would be great to lock up if they fall in your budget. You can get you 800 back anytime up until final if something changes in the next 16 months. If you delay with the limited HC cabins you could be shut out before you can firm up your plans.
QuickieGlenn Posted August 27, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted August 27, 2006 I was hoping you would respond (shoreguy) I need a little leverage to ashure the wife this is a good idea. We went on the Dawn in march and had a HC balcony cabin on deck 10 right near the rear elevators and it was great. Do you feel the ship more or less in the stern? Onthe last day back on the Dawn we hit some 20fters and she did not leave the room all day (not sick but not up to par). People thought I was crazy but I loved it out on deck when it was rough (in my wheelchair). She is weary of feeling that way again. Thanks Again Glenn
shoreguy Posted August 27, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2006 I did a crossing from the UK to NYC in an aft cabin on the Jewel with very little extra motion. Far less then the bow. Advice for the Mrs. Take one of these a day it is two late after she feels a bit under the weather. Worst sea day in Feb on the Dawn that I had in the last 3 years.
