flyerdreamer Posted August 28, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2006 I'm a previous cruiser on RCCL and loved it, but have a few questions in trying 2 plan next year's vacation.... June/July Eastern versus Western Caribbean...any preferences and why? I see Eastern has an extra sea day, but that might be nice on such a large ship to explore. Here's a biggie: I'm wondering if the jump from Junior suite to Grand or Owner's suite is worth it on the Voyager class ships. Those of you who've done it both ways, what do you think? Do both levels of suites get you priority embarkation and/or debarkation (the worst part of the cruise for me!)? I'm also thinking in terms of alcohol (concierge room for Grand and above). Having cruised on Regent in the past, it sure was nice having some free drinks. Speaking of which can you bring your own wine? If so, what is the corkage fee? Can you easily sneak on a bottle of rum, let's say, or so they root thru your luggage and discard the offending items. thanks so much for your help! meyer4two Posted August 28, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2006 You get priority embarkation & disembarkation if your Diamond level and above plus all the suites. The concierge will give you white tags & you wait in the concierge lounge. We were off the ship by 8:30 a.m.
shirleygr Posted August 28, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2006 Is it worth it? I think you need to look at the price difference between a js and a gs and decide if the perks outweigh the additional cost. Only you can decide that for yourself. I have yet to find the higher price worth it to me.

I have yet to find the higher price worth it to me. Agreed. Have booked a Grand Suite for our upcoming cruise on the Marina. We have booked this because we wanted the perks of a full suite (concierge lounge, priority embarkation/debarkation, priority tendering etc.) over a junior suite. Space-wise a junior suite would probably be fine (only two of us). LOVED the look of the Owners suite - they look smashing. BUT the cost/benefit trade-off pointed to a Grand Suite for this trip :) Boo
meripour Posted August 28, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 28, 2006 for us it has been worth it to be in the grand vs jr. suite, but as the previous poster said, it is up to you to see the dollars involved. Its more than the drinks for us, but also the size of the room/bathroom/balcony, plus everything the concierge has to offer beyond the drinks. the concierge is very nice on the voyager class ships and offers many perks above the jr., but since you have not gone grand you wont know what your missing until you try. flyerdreamer Posted August 28, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted August 28, 2006 Wow! You all are so helpful! :D I just booked 1394, a junior suite but center aft on deck 10, quite a coup according to the res agent who said it had been a cancellation. But I hadn't considered priority tendering...hmm...do I spend the money to do the Grand for that...do the junior suites get priority anything? Is it an issue for you? Thank you so much! shirleygr Posted August 28, 2006 #7 Share Posted August 28, 2006 JS gets priority embarkation. Tendering has never been an issue for me.

You have a great cabin, I wouldn't even consider trading a JS aft for a GRS.Big balcony, beautiful wake, quiet. You will love it, save your money for something else.
