We will be in Honolulu on 10/21 from early morning until our flight leaves at 4:30 PM that afternoon. Has anyone done a private tour? Any other suggestions would be appreicated. What did you do with your luggage?

Thanks for the help!

We pre-arranged for a rental van and enjoyed a beautiful relaxing day!

Suggestions for a day in Honolulu:

1) Go to Ala Moana Shopping Center and SHOP! Pick up those last minute gifts (you know the "My Aunty when to Hawaii and all I got was this Stupid Shirt" shirt). Actually haven't seen those at Ala Moana but seen many in Waikiki. Ala Moana is the MAIN mall in Hawaii. Higher sales of high end merchandise then Rodeo Drive even. But it's shopping for everyone, not just high end.

2) Rent a car and do a tour. Places you should stop and see: Tantalus (Round Top Drive) Lookout, Pali Lookout, Rabbit Island/Makapuu lookout, stop for some Shave Ice at Waioli Store (BEST shave ice anywhere luckily tourists don't know about it), eat malasadas at Leonard's Bakery, watch the windsurfers at Diamond Head beaches, eat some dim sum in Chinatown, check out Lanakila and Kailua Beaches, visit the Valley of the Temples in Kaneohe. That should take up your six or seven hours easy.

3) Hawaiian Waters Park. Water park in Kapolei with the slides and the pools and the wave machine and the boogie boarding tan. You'll probably need to rent a car to get there, cheaper then taking a cab both ways. You can get tickets at COSTCO for around $24 (not sure of the exact cost) otherwise it's something like $32 per person. (again, not sure of exact cost)

4) IF YOU DON'T MIND BEING SMELLY AND STICKY ON THE FLIGHT BACK... DO A HIKE!! Diamond Head hike is great (starts in the crater and ends with a great view of Waikiki and Honolulu) but it's VERY HOT (bring lots of water) and you can get dehydrated easily. It isn't very long though, 40min up, 30min down. There's also Manoa Valley Falls hike if you don't mind getting MUDDY and mosquito bitten. Dipping your feet in the falls pool is WONDERFUL but don't drink the water. Leptospirosis is a bitch. There's also the St.Louis Heights ridge hike and the Aiea Loop Trail. Lots of other hikes to do as well, you can find them on line or in a hiking Oahu book.

Don't know what kind of activities appeal to you so these are some suggestions giving a bit of a range of things to do. You can do web searches on all the places I've mentioned and find out more on line. As for you luggage, I DON'T KNOW. :) If you get a car and leave it in the trunk, that would be my suggestion (if your luggage will fit in a trunk).

DH and I are actually doing a pre and post cruise on Oahu. At the end of our vacation  our plane doesn't leave until 10:30 at night so we actually have booked another uneeded night at the hotel for freshening up after a day of whatever and so we don't have to worry about what to do with the luggage.

This worked for us. we walked into a hotel, the Waikiki Beach Marriott, and stood by the bell captians desk. Some one ask if they could help us. We told him that we had checked out of our room and our flight did not leave until late evening. Could we leave our bags at the desk while we spent the day on the beach?

We were not just allowed to leave our bags, he gave us a key card to a guest lounge where we changed in to swim wear and went all over Waikiki, Sampled many Mia Tias, went thur the International Market, swam, sunned, visited Irish "Pubs".Had a great day. Then had a place where we were able to shower and change for the flight home. No, we didn't tell him we stayed at some other property, he didn't ask. Maybe some of that luck of the Irish we picked up at Kelley O'Neil's
