Hi - we used Peet Taylor a couple of years ago and did it all through email. He was there on time at the port and no problems - it was wonderful, he even sang for us! I received an email as a confirmation back from him.

As far as shoes, I don't ever remember seeing anything rental like that on the ship, we were on Mariner - best to take your own.

Have fun, it's a great trip.

I did everything through email with Peat. It was great. He watches the schedules and even knew we would be arriving a bit late. He was there waiting (well Oneill, his son, was and made the call and Peat came right around to pick us up). I received a confirmation email and later emailed with questions and got timely responses. It will be no problem mon.

DRF itself rents water shoes, I think $5 per pair. I would spend the $10 and get your own. They are worth it for other water related activities. You could also bring a really old pair of sneakers and wear them and then just throw them out at the end if you wanted. Just remember the sneakers will be a bit heavy.

Good luck. You will have a great time with Peat.

If you go to the straw market on Labadee they sell shoes there too. I think they were saying $2. That is a place you can definately bargin! Be strong-- I usually feel so bad for them I end up buying all sorts of stuff I didn't intend to buy and end up having the kids take them to their teachers as gifts from the cruise.

until my cruise aboard the mariner of the seas!!! im so excited. i got an email from peat taylor confirming our tour with him!

-one question-if anyone has done his tour, he said we will be stopping by an elementary school for a few minutes. about how many children will we meet? we are bringing Bibles, candy, coloring books, etc and i had no idea about how many kids to expect.

if anyone has any good tips or suggestions for the mariner that would be great!

happy cruising

We went with Peat's company earlier this month and had a great time.

Peat wasn't able to make it but another employee took us wherever we wanted. All reservations were done via email and water shoes are available for rent at the Falls. We went by the school but it wasn't in session. I have heard of people bringing school supplies though.

BRIAN-

in the email it said we would go to dunn's river falls, fern gully and an elementary school but that it would probably take 4 1/2-5 hours...so i was wondering if there was anything else involved. where all did you go on your tour?

We went with Peat twice, last year we went to a kindergarter school. It was the highlight of our tour(my twin boys, 17 at the time really enjoyed the children, they are SO friendly) You will really appreciated your own schools, the school we visited did not have windows(no glass, just open holes in the walls, also outdoor bathrooms) it's a one room building, Very interesting and the children are SO cute-lots of hugs. We have pictures of our tour there and the kids and we truely know how blessed we are to live in the USA.

Everyone -hope you enjoy your tour and Peat and his son Oneil are great, enjoyed talking to Oneil(he's about 18 years old) things are really different in his country. Enjoy-KMBB

Would like to endorse what other posters have said. I found him to be excellent and some day I hope to meet him again. Would not hesitate to recommend him. Ask him anything as many times you like, he will not tire of replying to you.

We went on a tour in Nov. with Peat. Had a great time. We stopped at a school, but didn't get off the bus. The guide that was along with us explained about the school system. They also took us to several shopping areas in town plus DRF and Fern Gully. We felt we got to see the real Jamaica. Judi :)

Ilovecraig929... Thanks! I'm pretty darn excited too!

My DD is going to turn 18 on the cruise... I want her to experience different things (not just the touristy ones) but real cultures and real people. That's why I went with Peat Taylor (as recommended by MANY of you all!). It sounds like this is just what I was looking for.

In my email from Pete he mentioned being able to go tubing for $30 - I checked RCI excursion and it was double the price. I'm glad to give him our business and will tip him well.

Not a lot of people which makes it good. I think his trucks hold around 20 people and he has two of them. His wife Angela drives one and Peat drives the other.

We went a couple of years ago and had a blast. One piece of advice however.... When you stop at the roadside bar for an adult beverage, stick with beer. A member of our group had some sort of crushed root drink and couldnt remember his name for the next 12 hours......
