go the naki Posted August 31, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2006 We live in New Zealand, where tipping is not expected and have never travelled to a country where you are expected to tip. We are going on our first cruise on the Tahitian Princess in October and would like some advice on when and how much to tip. We know there is the automatic tips added to your account to cover some of the tipping but what should I do when I order room service? Do I tip when I get a drink? Stupid question I know but we have no experience of this.

The auto-tipping is $10/day and it covers the tipping for all of the waitstaff, the dining room managers (up to the maitre D) and your cabin steward. If you order room service, depending on whether you've ordered just coffee or a full dinner, a $1 - $5 tip should be adequate. Others might have a different opinion. When you order a drink from the bar, 15% is automatically added to your drink bill. That goes for any soft drinks or the soda card as well. These are charged to your onboard account. You don't need to bring or tip additionally.
wwinfl91 Posted August 31, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2006 I would suggest no more than a $1 a person for room service unless they are doing some really special service. Otherwise I agree with the above poster. Have a great next cruise.
