Not arriving Charlotte Amalie until 1pm.

I did contact already Sunny Liston. He said he could pick us up at 2pm. I emailed him back about what the tour would be like with the late arrival time, regarding shopping, as I know things close up at 5pm. Son wants to go to Megan's Bay, but I see we can snorkel at Coki, so he might prefer that. It's unfortunate we will be arriving so late. Anything to do around at the evening hours? Want to do/see as much as we can in the time we are there.

This is our first cruise ever and this board is a wealth of information.

Thanks in advance

Eileen

Well, I keep on thinkin' 'bout you (and your dilemna), sistergldnhair66, and I just can't live without you... havin' a good time in St. Thomas. Can't you see it in my eyes?

Hope everyone over the age of 40 gets the obscure "America" (70s rock band) reference there. C'mon! "Sister Golden Hair??" No? Okay, never mind... It's just me I guess...

Anyway... Lets all put our heads together and see if we can help Sis' out. Hmmm... You'll probably miss some of the better beach/snorkeling time, but you could still hit a nice beach and relax, and there may still be some decent snorkeling at Coki or Sapphire. One benefit of your late arrival may be that things will be quieter and you'll have less crowds and traffic to deal with. And depending on your departure time, you may get to take in a great sunset from a beach or from one of the lookouts, or possibly even take one of the sunset sails some of the daysail people offer. Maybe someone else has some better ideas. Sorry, I got nothin' else...

I tried to fake it. I don't mind sayin'. I just can't make it. I've been one poor correspondent... But that doesn't mean you ain't been on my mind! Doo wop, doo wop...

LOL, glad you got it! Yep everytime that song plays I think of my bestest friend who's been calling me Sister Golden Hair for years..

We are leaving port at 11pm. I would like to see the beaches and then maybe leave the big shopping for St. Maarten. Did want to get a nice piece of jewelry on this trip though. that's what my eye is going to wander too. But don't want to disappoint DS either.

Just booked my trip finally yesterday though. So I am taking polls with the kids for excursions they would be interested in so I can plan them accordingly. Thanks for any help.

You may find a better bargain on St. Martin for your jewelry. I remember the prices there being a bit better than on St. Thomas.

Coki sounds like a good plan and if the weather is not great you can always head next door to Coral World for something to do with the kids. Your late arrival actually might not be too bad. By the time you arrive other folks will be starting to head back to their ships. ;)

Taking the sky ride up to Paradise Point to watch the sunset might be a nice idea for when you return. I think you might even be able to grab some dinner up there -- but I'm not sure. I know there's a bar up there where mom and dad can enjoy an adult beverage. :p

In the evening you may want to grab a cab and head out to dinner, or just call it a day and just hang out at the ship at a time when it's bound to not be too crowded.

Our time in St.Thomas is also 1-11pm and we booked with Sunny. I got a great feeling from him when we spoke on the phone. He assured me the tour would be great even though its a later one. He told me we would first go to Mountian Top and have some spectacular views and banana daquiris and then go to the beach of our choice. He advised me that Saphire will have the best snorkeling, Coki comes in 2nd. According to him the beaches will be less crowded so we will have more or a private feel. After a few hours we will then go on to shopping which is right near the ship. A few of my friends and are are then on to Iggys which is a local bar/restaruant on the beach where we will have some local food and enjoy the entertainment till we have to get back to the ship.

sistergldnhair66~ I just noticed you are on the same cruise as me! Come on over to the Roll Call thread and introduce yourself to the people who you will be cruising with. We have 80 people or so signed up for a Meet and Mingle so it should be fun to meet some new friends.

Got an email back from Sunny and he seems great. I brought this up to my sons, ages 20 and 18 and they just want to go hang at a beach. Is it unrealistic of me to tell them to get a taxi off the ship, and go hang at a beach for a few hours while DH and I and DD go on the tour? We could meet up later on.

I'd rather have them happy than with me and miserable.

BTW is it Coki that has refreshment stands, and places to rent chairs, and snorkeling equipment. I know Megan's is limited in what they have.

Getting a cab to the beach is easy- plenty of cabs just sitting at the port. Coki has it all, refreshment stand, chairs, music playing, snorkeling equipment for rent (I recommend bringing your own snorkel though), across the street they can parasail ( you probably won't tell the boys that ;)) and right next door is coral world- they can even get their hair braided :)

I dont think its unrealistic at all. Why dont you let them take the taxi to the same beach that you will be going to with Sunny and then they are just bypassing the island tour. You can then be at the same beach and maybe Sunny will let them come back on the tour for the way back to the ship. Maybe just give him a few dollars for each of them. I bet if you asked Sunny he would do it. I spoke to him on the phone, he is very nice and you can just tell you will have fun with him.

Have you givin any thought as to what you want to do in St.Maarten? We booked the same sort of tour for there and it includes going to both sides of the island, beach time and shopping time. I know the women still has a few seats available if you are interested.

I was thinking the same thing- but the cost of a cab to and from Coki is a lot less than paying full fare for 2 people who just want to 'beach it'

Seas the Day!
