Sign and Sail card Question- someone with no credit card...

my bf and i leave on our 4 day carnival cruise to ensenada and catalina on monday. he doesnt have a credit card. if he uses his debit card, how much of a hold do they put on it? what about if he just uses cash for s & s? how much do they ask for? thanks!!!

He would be able to use the debit card 'like' a credit card if it has a Mastecard or Visa logo. Nightly holds will be placed on the card depending on how much you charge onboard. A cash deposit for a 4 day cruise is $100 per person.

I would just bring cash to put on it. You can always add more during your cruise if you need to. I've read quite a few posts about bank accounts getting messed up due to using their debit cards on their sign/sail

USing a debit card can be messy IF your BF has a daily limit to how much he can spend. Have him call the bank and find out. If there is a daily limit have it lifted while you are away.

 

if you have a daily limit and its not done your account can be frozen and you will have no access to your monies when you get back for a few days-- (could take up to a week to clear)

Use cash. When you check in you tell them and then they have you go to the pursers desk once on board to put the cash on. It is very easy. I don't know if you have the option to monitor your account via the tv in your room. If you do monitor it and when getting low go put more on.

At the end of the cruise they will give you a check for unused $ which you can either cash or bring home and deposit. I had a balance of 60 cents and just left it.:D

When the cash runs out, they will let you know, at which time you can go down and put a credit card down.
