captain's cocktail party

nope, it is what they have there only..

if I remember right it was tequllia sunrise, tom collens, mellon ball and a couple others, we always go to the same part of the ship and use the same wait staff for drinks, so when we do go to the party, we look for them, and sit in their area, and they treat us GREAT!

last time he gave us 3 drinks at a time. and a platter full of finger food. the couple we were with, all he drank was beer, and he had about 7 of those, but I can't say for sure if beer was part of it or not, because I didnt see anyone else with beer.but I know he didnt get charged for it..

I've always asked the bar waiters for whatever I want... I have never ordered anything frozen though. I don't think I've ever seen the captains party held where there is a bar... I just ask the waiters, who are typically waiters that we seek out.

When we were on the Valor, they brought us drinks other than what they had on their trays-but no one ordered a fu-fu drink, I believe. Perhaps I'll try asking for that next time!

BTW, does anyone know what the glop is on the little spoons they pass around at that party? I didn't try it-I always get highly suspicious of unidentifiable food. . .

All the parties I've been to have been in the main showlounge, and yes, there was a bar in there. They don't make the fru-fru drinks like you can get on Lido - but you can walk up to the bar and order whatever you want, i.e., martini, beer, wine, soft drinks, etc. The waiters who are passing out drinks and hors d'oeuvres can get something other than what's on their trays, but you'll have to wait awhile. Better to walk up to the bar for faster service.

Yeppers Cotton--my husband always asks for beer, no problem.

This is exactly what I was about to say.

I usually get martini's and opt to start at the bar so I don't have to wait.

this party is formal attire right?

No...Formal attire is not required.

The invitation will state something about the attire AND it can vary as the times of this party can vary greatly.

I have been to past guest parties that were held just before my dinner time on Formal night and then of course you do see a lot of people dressed in formal wear (including me!) but the invite did not require it. There were people there who were dressed much more casually - espescially those who opt for alternative dining and skip the Dining Room.

I have seen the past guest party held at 4:30 in the afternoon and obviously that one was much more casual.

I wasn't aware that you could go to the bar and make request. I sucked down the drinks even though they weren't the brands that I liked. Are you allowed to request "anything" at the bar - like a Grey Goose Martini? Or do they stick to the house brands only?

They stuck to house brands as far as I can recall and they are on the small side so I order 2 ;)

You can go to the bar and order what you want. You can also make the request from one of the waitstaff and they will bring it to you.....this takes more time obviously.

I usually head to the bar first and get myself 2 drinks then find a spot to sit and relax.

Since the Captain's Cocktail Party is held on Formal Night, almost everyone there will be nicely dressed in their evening attire.

However, those folks who don't choose to go to the dining room on Formal Night can still attend the party dressed more casually, although they will most definitely be in the minority.

The party will be announced in the Capers, no invitations, and there is no dress code mentioned that I recall.

(The Past Guest Party is a whole 'nother animal.):D

OOP!!!!

Sorry!! I was answering the wrong question here

WHat Cotton said is what I would have said if i was paying attention to what thread I was on!!!

Most people are dressed for dinner but there are the more casual folks who are not planning on eating in the Dining Room.

Actually, on my last cruise I had a late dinner seating but I visited the bar during the early dinner seating Captains Party and got a drink to have with my sushi. I was NOT dressed for dinner yet and had on a sundress over my bathing suit.
