New to Princess, got a lot of questions

I have cruised CCL nine times and RCl twice, now am trying Princess.

I have booked two obstructed window cabins near the theater for 12/23/06 on the Golden out of New Orleans.

1) How much noise will these cabins get?

2) What xmas things does the ship offer?

3) Should I do anytime dining, or will assigned dining better for a xmas cruise?

4)Can a former CCL cruiser attend the repeaters party?

5) Should we hang around New Orleans for New Years?

6) Does the Golden have the pool movie screen?

Thanks in advance!

I would suggest doing PC (personal choice) dining because I think after you try it you will like it and wish all cruise lines offered it. We got assigned it on the Golden in 2003 and wondered about it until we tried it. Then we chose it on 2004 on the Island and again for our upcoming cruise on the Golden in November.

Most shows are done by Midnight so I would think as long as you don't plan on going to bed before then you should be fine. More seriously ships tend to add extra sound insulation in areas around theaters so you will probably be fine.

New Orleans at New year will be a party in the areas of the city where you as a tourist should be. It depends on how much you like to party and how much you are willing to spend for a hotel room.

We have never been on a Princess ship at Xmas but almost all cruise lines decorate for Xmas and don't take down those decorations until after New Years.

We will be on the Golden for its transatlantic cruise that brings it from Rome to New Orleans and will do our best to make sure the ship arrives in good shape.,

Have a great next cruise.

One more thing-

What I liked about Carnival was the bedding, food quality and comics

I am tired of seeing the same shows, ships are crowded and chair hogging is getting to the point where a fight could break out.

Do you think I'll be happy with Princess?

Was on the Island last December for Christmas/Hanukkah/New Years.

yes, the ship is all decorated but the Christmas stuff, including the pine cones that are on each cabin's inbox, comes down a day or two after the 25th. Endless Christmas music on all audio channels and piped into the Horizon. Clergy aboard (only went to the Hanukkah menorah lighting ceremony so don't know about the Christmas ones).

On the 25th, the kids had a party in the Wheelhouse Bar. There was announcements tracking the "sled" about that time.

The Carnival credits just entitle you to some booking discounts. You'll still get a blue cabin card and be considered on your first Princess cruise.

1. I really don't find any rooms noisy, except the very back of the ship.

2. Ships are beautifully decorated, Santa is on board, lots of Xmas cookies.

3. We like traditional dining - 2nd seating. But it all depends on your situation.

4. No

5. I wouldn't hang around New Orleans now for anything.

Well, unless princess changes their minds soon, unless you have booked a mini suite or full suite, I can't say the bed quality is good on Princess. They have recently upgraded the bedding and mattress' in the minis and full suites but so far no word about upgrading lower cabins. Think on the line of 'camp cots' with thin little mattresses. They advertise it as one of the benefits of booking a mini suite and above.

As to the bedding, when we sailed on the Dawn last year, we watched them load probably 50 or more new mattresses on prior to sailing. I assumed that this was a standard practice. I have a bad back and found mine comfy, but had planned on asking the steward for a new one had it not been. My guess is, I would have gotten it no questions asked.
